What the job involves
In this role, you will diagnose and repair avionics equipment down to the component level, including navigation, communication, pulse, radar, audio, and autopilot systems, along with related aircraft systems.
- Carry out general avionics support tasks on aircraft, such as removing and installing panels and components, and completing repair work.
- Troubleshoot and assess aircraft systems when assigned.
- Inspect aircraft and components when required.
- Move aircraft and verify system performance.
- Maintain and repair shop facilities, tools, and equipment used to support operations.
- Partner with customers on project coordination, pricing, and support activities.
- Handle projects independently.
- Take on other job-related duties as directed by supervisors or management.
- Communicate clearly in English, both spoken and written.
- Use basic computer skills to navigate electronic training, manuals, and maintenance databases.
Education and experience
A high school diploma or equivalent is required. Electronics or avionics factory training is preferred. At least 1 year of experience in avionics repair or installations is preferred.
Work style and expectations
The ideal candidate should be a self-starter who can work in a fast-paced environment with deadlines and time constraints. The role also requires comfort working with customers and performing duties with limited supervision.

Physical, mental, and workplace conditions
The position involves lifting up to 50 lbs, frequent walking, bending, squatting, sitting, repetitive arm and hand movement, and standing for long periods. You must also be able to climb ladders and stairs and work in confined spaces.
From a mental standpoint, the role calls for understanding and applying regulations and guidelines, troubleshooting and testing avionics and instrument systems, and working professionally with others.
You will work under the supervision of an Avionics Team Leader. The work environment is a hangar with temperature swings from very cold to very hot, and aircraft runs may require outdoor work. Duties may be performed in and around aircraft in varied positions.
Tools and equipment
The job uses personal hand tools provided by the mechanic, along with pneumatic, hydraulic, and electrical equipment, jacks, stands, lifts, support devices, tugs, power carts, engine-powered equipment, crimpers, soldering irons, heat guns, a personal computer, and printed work orders.
Pay and compensation
The hourly pay range for this role is generally between $36.00 and $54.00. Actual pay may be higher or lower depending on location, experience, and performance. If assigned to an alternate shift, shift differential pay may apply. Additional compensation may include a semi-annual discretionary bonus, a 401(k) company match, and employer contributions to a Health Savings Account (HSA).
