Role Overview

The Mycoalition is looking for an experienced, committed, and thoughtful Board Chair who cares deeply about building healthy, holistic ecosystems for communities working with psychedelic plants, mushrooms, and related medicine allies. In this role, you will help guide the organization, participate in decisions, and support the team in staying aligned with its mission and values.

The main purpose of the Chair position is to cultivate a strong, active, and collaborative board that works well with the staff to advance the organization’s goals and strengthen its impact.

Responsibilities

Organize board meetings that are collaborative, engaging, and productive.
Support board continuity through succession planning and leadership development.
Help resolve interpersonal or cultural conflicts involving board members or board-staff dynamics when needed.
Prepare meeting materials and agendas for each board meeting.
Keep board members informed about key updates, especially those tied to board responsibilities.
Assign committees and committee leads.
Support the recruitment and onboarding of new board members.
Act as the main point of contact for the board.
Work with the Executive Director on strategic planning and implementation.
Build and maintain important organizational relationships.
Help create a board culture that reflects The Mycoalition’s values and broader culture.
Partner with the board to set fundraising goals and ensure accountability toward them.
Develop and carry out evaluation processes for the board and Executive Director.
Support staff in shaping programs, budgets, and strategic planning.
Contribute to operational work, relationship management, fundraising, and strategic support alongside the Executive Director.

Ideal Candidate Profile

You bring an undergraduate degree, a master’s degree, and/or substantial experience in leadership, community organizing, or nonprofit management and development.
You have prior board experience and have previously served as a Board Chair.
You have significant experience in transformative justice, ecological justice, and/or healing justice within diverse communities and networks.
You understand the psychedelic field and the emerging movement around it in a meaningful, practical way.
You practice anti-oppression values and are committed to solidarity and dismantling systems of oppression.
You are organized, proactive, and dependable.
You communicate consistently, clearly, and promptly.
You are committed to the mission and strategic direction of the organization.
You understand sound financial management and reporting practices.
You can dedicate the time required for the role, which is estimated at 15 to 20 hours per month.
You have a strong passion for the psychedelic movement, healing and transformative justice, and building a future grounded in people power and ecological justice.

Time Commitment

The board chair responsibilities are expected to take around 15 hours per month, and may reach 15 to 20 hours monthly depending on organizational needs.

This is a part-time onsite opportunity based in Colorado, United States. The role is associated with The Mycoalition and focuses on board leadership, strategic support, relationship-building, and organizational stewardship.
