Role overview
Vessev is developing a new generation of marine transport: hydrofoiling electric vessels designed to deliver better outcomes for people and the environment. The company relies on advanced materials, exacting engineering, and a skilled composite build team to bring that vision to life.
This is a full-time, practical build role focused on making and assembling high-performance composite structures that are central to the vessel design. You will be joining a capable team with strong international experience, including backgrounds in America’s Cup boat building, and you’ll have room to shape your work and grow with the company from an early stage.
What you will do
You’ll help convert engineering concepts into production-ready parts and assemblies within an integrated workshop environment. The role includes hands-on composite fabrication, assembly, tooling work, and quality-focused workshop support.
- Produce composite parts using resin infusion methods.
- Carry out structural assembly tasks such as bonding, taping, and finishing to achieve accurate, durable builds.
- Create tooling support, including detailing CNC plugs and building composite tooling for part manufacture.
- Prepare moulds, consumables, and materials so layup and infusion work runs efficiently.
- Inspect components and assemblies to confirm they meet the company’s quality standards.
- Work alongside engineers, technicians, and fellow builders to improve build methods and workflow.
- Help maintain a safe, tidy, and professional workshop at all times.
About you
You are a practical builder who cares deeply about workmanship, clean infusion work, and strong bonding outcomes. You’re comfortable working with composite materials and precision tooling, and you’re motivated by the chance to contribute to a leading-edge marine manufacturing business.
You do not need to be an expert in hydrofoiling or electric vehicles. What matters most is your craft, your curiosity, and your ability to learn quickly alongside a team that values dedication and collaboration.
Required experience and strengths
- 3 to 10 years of direct experience in composite boat building or a closely related field.
- Hands-on capability with resin infusion for part fabrication.
- Strong skills in bonding and taping large composite structures.
- Working knowledge of composite tooling, consumables, and sound workshop practices.
- Confident use of hand tools.
Bonus background
- Formal boat building qualification.
- Experience in a startup, technology, or advanced manufacturing setting.
- Knowledge of health and safety requirements in composite or workshop environments.
- Interest in marine technology.
- Experience with vessel or vehicle painting.
About the company
Vessev aims to help create a cleaner, more connected future through hydrofoiling electric vessels that can use up to 90% less energy than conventional boats. The team includes people with experience from the America’s Cup, SpaceX, Rocket Lab, Halter, Apple, and climate-focused startups. The culture values purpose, humility, and optimism over job titles.
Why people enjoy working here
- The opportunity to help build something genuinely different in marine transport and workplace culture.
- Work that contributes to meaningful, long-term impact.
- A collaborative team made up of highly skilled people.
- 20 weeks of fully paid parental leave for primary caregivers and 4 weeks for secondary caregivers, subject to conditions.
- Competitive pay aligned with the value of the role.
- Regular time on the water, including vessel trips and offices near the Tamaki River.
- A workplace shared with people who are enthusiastic about boating, sailing, foiling, surfing, kiteboarding, and beach life.
Application mindset
If you can see yourself doing excellent work in this environment, you are encouraged to apply even if you do not meet every listed requirement. The company welcomes applicants who may not tick every box but believe they can contribute strongly to the team.
