Chief Data Officer

Role Overview

The Chief Data Officer is a full-time remote leadership position focused on shaping the organization’s data direction so it directly supports SDGsACT FUOYE’s mission, campaigns, and broader initiatives. The role is responsible for building a strong data governance structure, setting policies and standards, and making sure data handling remains compliant with applicable data protection rules.

Key Responsibilities

This position covers oversight of data collection and integration across multiple sources, maintaining high data quality, and creating dependable reporting outputs and insights for programs and advocacy efforts. The CDO will partner with organizational leaders and cross-functional teams to embed data-informed decision-making, design dashboards and performance metrics that measure impact, and steer data science activities that strengthen outreach and advocacy.

Leadership and Culture

In addition to technical and strategic responsibilities, the CDO will coach team members on data literacy and help foster an organization-wide mindset centered on responsible, ethical, and effective use of data.

Qualifications

• Strong capability in data governance and data management, including establishing secure, ethical, and practical policies, standards, and operating processes.
• Solid analytical ability and hands-on data quality expertise to assess complex information, verify datasets, and keep reporting accurate and trustworthy.
• Practical background in data science, including applying statistical techniques and data tools to produce insights that can guide programs and campaigns.
• Experience creating data strategies, using business intelligence tools, and working with performance measurement frameworks, preferably in nonprofit or mission-driven environments.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to translate technical concepts for non-technical audiences and work effectively across teams.
• Demonstrated leadership in data-centric roles and the ability to operate independently in a remote setting.
• A bachelor’s or higher degree in Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, Information Management, or a related discipline is preferred.
• Prior involvement in sustainable development, social impact, or advocacy work is an added advantage.
