Job Summary
The Commodity Manager will be responsible for developing and executing strategic commodity plans to streamline the supply chain and achieve continuous improvements in material productivity. This role involves identifying and cultivating strategic supplier relationships for essential components while simultaneously reducing overall supply chain complexity. The position is preferably located in Ireland, the UK, or Europe and offers a hybrid or remote work arrangement.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Formulate and implement commodity strategies to meet targets for quality, delivery, cost, and inventory.
- Cultivate and maintain robust relationships with key suppliers, promoting collaboration and joint risk management.
- Monitor and analyze market conditions and geopolitical factors to inform commodity strategies and mitigate supply chain risks.
- Negotiate comprehensive agreements with global suppliers for assigned commodities, focusing on achieving optimal total cost.
- Secure favorable contract terms including discounts, payment and shipping terms, stocking arrangements, quality standards, service requirements, and supply chain integration.
- Employ an 80/20 approach to define strategies and identify opportunities for reducing product and supplier base complexity.
- Lead cross-functional teams in projects aimed at reducing product complexity and driving improvements.
- Oversee the global supplier base, utilizing supply chain management tools to enhance supplier performance and resolve issues.
- Support product teams by integrating product roadmaps, market insights, and new technologies into commodity strategies, and continuously evaluate potential new suppliers.
- Foster strong, collaborative relationships with internal supply chain and production teams to ensure a consistent supply of critical components.
- Partner with global cross-functional teams to align supply chain resilience strategies with production planning, inventory management, and logistics, supporting the SIOP process.
- Implement digital tools and technologies to enhance supply chain visibility, forecasting accuracy, and decision-making capabilities.
- Spearhead the development and execution of supply chain-specific business continuity plans (BCPs) to ensure preparedness for potential disruptions.
Education and Experience
- A Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Business Administration, or a related field is required.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in commodity management within a manufacturing setting, or a comparable combination of education and experience.
- Demonstrated experience in supply chain development within the industrial and/or hygienic pump sectors.
- An APICS or CPM certification is preferred.
- Experience with iron/aluminum casting, metal fabrication, machining, electronics, and/or plastics is advantageous.
- Experience managing a global supplier base is preferred.
Other Special Requirements
- Applicants for certain positions involving controlled goods and technologies may need to meet specific regulatory requirements (e.g., U.S. Person status under ITAR/EAR).
- Familiarity with sourcing machined castings is preferred.
- Experience with Advance Product Quality Planning (APQP) is preferred.
- Possess mechanical and technical aptitude to interpret engineering documents, including blueprints.
- Strong analytical skills are essential.
Computer Skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Experience with Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software.
Work Environment
- Ability to navigate office and manufacturing environments, perform keyboarding, and general office tasks.
- Effective verbal and auditory communication skills for phone and in-person interactions.
- Sufficient visual acuity for detailed work and computer usage.
- Work will occur in general manufacturing, warehouse, and office settings.
- Approximately 25% travel is required, both domestically and internationally.
Organizational Relationships
- Must possess excellent communication skills to interact effectively with customers, suppliers, and all levels of company personnel.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues across all organizational levels.
- Serve as the primary liaison between the company and its suppliers, working closely with Manufacturing, Marketing, Sales, Engineering, and Corporate teams.
