Custodian

Job Overview

This role is centered on keeping assigned spaces clean, sanitary, and well maintained. The custodian handles routine janitorial work, supports safe handling of waste materials, and helps ensure the work area remains orderly and compliant with company procedures.

Key Responsibilities

• Carry out general janitorial tasks as assigned.
• Complete the duties outlined in the daily work schedule.
• Handle hazardous waste-related tasks, including collection, sorting, classification, storage, shipping, receiving, labeling, cleaning, recycling, and packaging of special and hazardous waste.
• Use motorized cleaning equipment when required.
• Maintain the cleanliness and day-to-day condition of the assigned area.
• Escalate incidents and unsafe conditions to the supervisor.
• Follow safety rules, procedures, and site policies at all times.
• Intervene when unsafe behavior is observed, whether by self or others.
• Work cooperatively with team members to complete assignments.
• Handle repetitive tasks consistently and accurately.
• Keep the work area clean and organized.
• Follow company protocols, rules, and procedures.
• Accept direction from supervisors and respond appropriately to oversight.
• Communicate professionally with leads, supervisors, colleagues, managers, and customers.
• Provide coverage during staff shortages when needed.
• Assist the shift lead with punch-list completion.
• Use the correct personal protective equipment for the task.
• Maintain a professional appearance and conduct.
• Support a positive customer experience and satisfaction.
• Understand reporting systems and environmental expectations.

Qualifications

No formal education is required for this position. Prior training or work experience of 3 to 6 months is preferred, or an equivalent mix of education and experience. The role may require a valid driver’s license, completion of safety and task training certifications, and possibly forklift certification. Bilingual candidates are a plus.

Skills and Knowledge

• Ability to follow written instructions, procedures, manuals, and related documents.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Working knowledge of cleaning methods and equipment.
• Understanding of how to maintain and care for cleaning equipment.
• Familiarity with cleaning chemicals and compounds, including safe and efficient use.
• Comfort working with a team in a fast-paced facility setting.
• Attention to workplace safety and incident reporting.
• Professional customer interaction.

Physical Requirements

The position may require frequent sitting, speaking, and listening. Employees must be able to lift and/or move up to 35 pounds. Reasonable accommodation may be provided for qualified individuals with disabilities.

Shift and Compensation

Available schedules include Sunday through Thursday from 9:30 pm to 6:00 am, Monday through Friday from 1:30 pm to 10:00 pm, and Monday through Friday from 5:30 am to 2:00 pm. Pay ranges from $14.25 to $14.75 per hour.
