Design Manager

Role overview

We are looking for an accomplished Design Manager to steer the complete design workflow for intricate building developments in New South Wales. The position calls for someone who can tackle technical challenges, keep consultants aligned and accountable, and ensure all design outcomes are coordinated, compliant, and ready for construction.

Key responsibilities

• Direct multidisciplinary design teams through every stage, from early concept work to construction delivery.
• Coordinate the work of architectural, structural, civil, services, façade, and specialist consultants.
• Monitor adherence to the NCC, Australian Standards, DCPs, SEPPs, and the D&BP Act.
• Facilitate design workshops, technical assessments, and coordination sessions.
• Address design conflicts, RFIs, clashes, and queries that arise during construction.
• Promote strong design quality, buildability, and value engineering outcomes.
• Control design schedules, deliverables, and the full approval pathway, including DA, CC, CDC, and OC.
• Serve as the main point of contact between the client, consultants, authorities, and project delivery teams.

What you need to bring

The right candidate should have solid technical expertise in building design and construction, along with a strong grasp of NSW compliance requirements. Experience managing multiple consultant disciplines is essential, as is the ability to interpret, evaluate, and combine complex technical documentation. Clear communication, effective coordination, and confident stakeholder management are also key, together with a hands-on, solution-oriented approach.

Qualifications

A degree in Engineering, Architecture, Construction Management, or a closely related discipline is required. Prior involvement in Class 2 developments or similarly complex building projects is essential.
