ERG is a research and consulting organization that works with federal, state, and commercial clients. Its teams bring expertise across engineering, science, economics, public health, information technology, and communications. The company emphasizes a flexible, energetic work environment where motivated people can grow their careers.

Role Overview

ERG is looking for an early-career Environmental Scientist to contribute to projects focused on drinking water, water quality programs, related regulations, and infrastructure. This opportunity is well suited to a recent graduate or someone at the start of their career who wants to build experience in water resources, environmental planning, drinking water, water quality, and the utility and regulatory sectors.

What You Will Do

  • Support ERG’s water-focused assignments with technical assistance.
  • Conduct research, gather and analyze data, and help with stakeholder engagement on drinking water, water quality management, regulations, and related topics.
  • Help prepare materials for both technical specialists and non-technical audiences, along with other project outputs.
  • Assist with environmental planning reviews for infrastructure proposals, including Environmental Assessments (EAs) and Categorical Exclusion (CATEX) reviews under the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA).
  • Contribute to regulatory compliance work, technical support activities, and related project efforts.
  • Work closely with teams that may include scientists, engineers, policy analysts, communications professionals, and other colleagues to meet client needs.
  • Support project coordination, administrative work, and, when needed, proposal and business development tasks.

Qualifications and Skills

  • A bachelor’s degree in environmental science or a closely related field.
  • 0–3 years of relevant academic or professional experience.
  • Strong ability to analyze information, research topics, and solve problems.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills.
  • Good time management and the ability to handle several priorities at once while meeting deadlines.
  • Comfort working independently as well as as part of a team.
  • Preferred background includes coursework or research connected to the water sector and a basic understanding of environmental regulations.
