About the role
BCP Council is seeking compassionate, steady and committed people to become foster carers for children and young people who cannot live with their birth families. In Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole, more than 600 children are currently in care, and this opportunity is about giving them a secure, supportive home where they can feel safe and grow.
Fostering is a meaningful long-term commitment. By offering daily care and consistency, you can help a child rebuild confidence, strengthen their sense of belonging and move toward a better future.
What you will do
- Create a safe, nurturing and reliable home environment.
- Support a child’s emotional health, learning and overall development.
- Help maintain valuable contact with family members and friends.
- Work closely with social workers and other professionals involved in the child’s care.
- Manage everyday parenting tasks such as school drop-offs, pick-ups and attending appointments.
- Encourage confidence, independence and positive experiences in daily life.
About you
The council is looking for people who have a strong desire to support children and young people, along with the patience and resilience needed to build trust. You should be open to learning, have flexibility in your routine and be able to offer a spare bedroom in your home.
Applications are welcomed from people with varied backgrounds; there is no single standard profile for a foster carer.
Support and allowance
- Receive an allowance of up to £789 per week for each child, paid tax-free.
- Get round-the-clock support from an experienced fostering team.
- Access tailored training and ongoing development opportunities.
- Benefit from one-to-one guidance from a dedicated social worker.
- Join a supportive community of fellow foster carers.
- Gain new skills while making a tangible difference in a child’s life.
- Attend social events.
About the organisation

The council’s “Be the Difference” approach reflects its commitment to people who want their work to have real meaning. Foster carers are central to that mission by helping improve the lives of children and young people across the area.
