About the Role
Western State Hospital, part of the Virginia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services, is hiring a full-time housekeeping worker to help maintain a clean, safe, sanitary, and welcoming environment for patients, staff, and visitors. The role is based at Western State Hospital in Staunton, Virginia, within a modern therapeutic psychiatric setting that serves adults with serious mental health needs.
Western State Hospital has a long history in psychiatric care, operating since 1828. It is a 302-bed facility accredited by Joint Commission and CMS, and it is known for its psychosocial rehabilitation learning programs. The hospital is situated in the Shenandoah Valley, with nearby access to Charlottesville and Harrisonburg.

Responsibilities
- Keep bathrooms and shower areas clean on a daily basis.
- Remove trash every day.
- Mop floors daily and perform dust mopping and wet mopping as required.
- Clean walls and ceilings when needed.
- Carry out weekly floor buffing.
Minimum Requirements
- Working knowledge of cleaning bathrooms, bedrooms, dayrooms, floor finishes, and housekeeping equipment operation.
- Ability to read, write, and complete basic math calculations.
- Physical capability to lift heavy items, stand for long periods, walk across varied surfaces, climb ladders, work on knees, and perform duties in different conditions.
