About the Role

Western State Hospital, part of the Virginia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services, is hiring a full-time housekeeping worker to help maintain a clean, safe, sanitary, and welcoming environment for patients, staff, and visitors. The role is based at Western State Hospital in Staunton, Virginia, within a modern therapeutic psychiatric setting that serves adults with serious mental health needs.

Western State Hospital has a long history in psychiatric care, operating since 1828. It is a 302-bed facility accredited by Joint Commission and CMS, and it is known for its psychosocial rehabilitation learning programs. Responsibilities

• Keep bathrooms and shower areas clean on a daily basis.
• Remove trash every day.
• Mop floors daily and perform dust mopping and wet mopping as required.
• Clean walls and ceilings when needed.
• Carry out weekly floor buffing.

Minimum Requirements

• Working knowledge of cleaning bathrooms, bedrooms, dayrooms, floor finishes, and housekeeping equipment operation.
• Ability to read, write, and complete basic math calculations.
• Physical capability to lift heavy items, stand for long periods, walk across varied surfaces, climb ladders, work on knees, and perform duties in different conditions.
