Role overview
This is a temporary full-time Instructor/Supervisor position within REA Services in Loughrea, County Galway, initially based at Sovereign Centre. The role focuses on delivering a person-centred, individualised programme for adults with an intellectual disability, aligned with New Directions standards. The appointee will also act as a key worker for the people supported by the service.
Reporting line and collaboration
The post reports to the Team Leader, Service Coordinator, and Area Manager. Day-to-day working involves close contact with the people supported by the service, their families, the multidisciplinary team, frontline staff, GRETB tutors, and other service leaders.
Key duties
The successful candidate will support the planning and delivery of programmes designed around each person’s needs, goals, and outcomes. The role requires working flexibly to meet service demands and to ensure quality support for individuals.
Qualifications and experience
Applicants must hold a Level 7 qualification relevant to the health sector and have at least one year of experience working in intellectual disability services. Experience in day services, programme design and implementation, community networking, and micro-enterprise development will be considered an advantage.
A full, clean Irish manual driving licence is essential, and strong spoken and written English is required.
Working pattern
The role is based on 78 hours per fortnight across a 5-day roster. Usual working days are Monday to Friday, although weekend work may be necessary depending on service needs and personal outcomes. Hours can be scheduled between 8:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. across 7 days, reflecting the flexible nature of the service model.
Leave and remuneration
Annual leave entitlement is 22 days per year. Pay is based on the Department of Health Supervisor/Instructor consolidated salary scale, effective 1 June 2026, from €36,291 to €52,406 per annum.
Employment terms
This is a specified-purpose, full-time, pensionable position. A probation period of nine months will apply from the date of appointment, and employment may end during probation if the employer determines the appointee is not suitable. The probation period may also be extended at the employer’s discretion.
