Liquor Store Associate

Job Summary

This position focuses on building customer trust and repeat business by delivering respectful, timely service and maintaining a welcoming, well-run store environment.

Responsibilities

• Check customers for age verification, watch for signs that alcohol should not be sold, and help prevent open containers from leaving the store.
• Refuse alcohol or tobacco sales to anyone who is underage or appears intoxicated.
• Stay attentive to shopper needs throughout the visit.
• Welcome customers, help them find what they need, and thank them in a courteous and friendly way.
• Recommend products when it is suitable to do so.
• Keep department items stocked and rotated so freshness and date control standards are met.
• Use stock and supplies efficiently to minimize waste and keep supply costs low.
• Handle department tools and equipment, including cashiering tools, accurately and efficiently.
• Accept all tender types properly and give the correct change when required.
• Maintain a clean, organized work area and remove safety risks; report broken equipment and hazards to management.

Qualifications

The role requires a strong focus on compliance, customer care, and day-to-day store operations. Candidates should be able to work in a busy retail setting and follow company procedures closely.

Education and language requirements

• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• English is required; English and Spanish are preferred.

Experience

• 0 to 3 years of relevant experience is expected.
• No supervisory experience is required.

Skills and abilities

• Must be at least 21 years old.
• TIPS training must be completed before the start date.
• Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English and follow instructions accurately.
• Work authorization in the United States is required, or the ability to obtain it.
• Must pass a pre-employment drug screening and background check.
• Willingness to follow all company policies and procedures.
• High level of integrity and dependability.
• Basic computer literacy for online training.
• Strong customer service orientation.
• Comfort working in a fast-paced, high-traffic environment.

Work environment

This is a retail role with heavy physical demands. Duties may require standing or walking on different flooring surfaces, using both hands and feet repetitively, and performing tasks that involve reaching, carrying, pushing, lifting, sitting, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and climbing up to 30 feet.

Working conditions may include indoor and outdoor areas, as well as cold, freezing, heated, and wet or humid environments.

Risk factors include twisting the back or neck, walking on slippery or cluttered floors, using hazardous equipment, and exposure to sharp objects. At times, the role may also involve loud noise, skin irritants, dust, fumes, sprays, hazardous cleaning chemicals, and other toxins.

Common equipment used includes cleaning supplies, general office tools, registers, pricing guns, scales, scanners, and material-handling equipment such as racks, carts, pallet jacks, and shopping carts. Preferred tools include a baler/compactor and box cutter. Personal protective equipment may include goggles, gloves, and a back brace.

Physical requirements include a pulling requirement of 250 lbs and a lifting requirement of 50 lbs.

Travel and shift information
