Role overview
West Fraser is hiring for a Log Scaler - Weighmaster at its Williams Lake Plywood Division in Williams Lake, British Columbia. This role supports log yard operations by checking log quality, helping with inventory accuracy, and contributing to related field work and operational tasks.
What you'll do
- Carry out log scaling and assess log quality in varying weather conditions.
- Perform weighmaster duties, including stratification work in the scale house or scale area.
- Help maintain accurate log yard inventory records.
- Support waste and residue field surveys.
- Take on other related duties as needed, which may include elements of purchase wood handling and loader operation.
What you bring
- A valid BC Scaling License.
- A self-driven approach and the ability to work well with others.
- A strong and visible commitment to safe work practices.
- A Class 5 driver’s licence.
- Interest in building a long-term career and advancing through different areas of the company’s core business.
Work location
The position is based in Williams Lake, British Columbia, in the Cariboo region about 545 km northeast of Vancouver. The area is known for outdoor recreation, nearby lakes and wildlife, and its role in forestry, mining, and transportation. Williams Lake also offers local schools, a solid community economy, and the annual Williams Lake Stampede.
Compensation and benefits
- Pay and benefits are provided according to the Steelworkers union agreement.
