About the Organisation
The University of Otago is New Zealand’s first and oldest university, known for its teaching and research excellence and broad international reach. With more than 20,000 students and 4,000 staff across campuses around the country, it is one of the nation’s largest and best-known institutions.
The Marketing Services team is central to attracting prospective students and strengthening Otago’s reputation within New Zealand and overseas.
About the Role
This position is a great opportunity to develop your marketing career while helping shape how Otago engages with future students.
As Marketing Coordinator, you will be involved in live campaign work from the outset, partnering with Marketing Specialists and Advisers to plan, execute, and evaluate activity across digital, social, and traditional marketing channels.
You will contribute ideas, help organise campaign delivery, oversee marketing assets, and review results to understand what is performing well and what is not. The role is varied and fast-moving, offering strong early-career exposure and practical learning.
This opportunity is well suited to someone at the start of their marketing journey who wants hands-on experience and a solid foundation for future growth.
Skills and Experience
We are seeking an early-career marketer who is well organised, takes initiative, and is eager to learn. The ideal candidate will bring:
- Between 1 and 3 years of experience assisting with marketing campaigns and related activity, although standout graduates may also be considered
- Working familiarity with digital, social, and broader marketing tools
- Strong planning skills and a sharp eye for detail
- Confident written and verbal communication
- A team-focused mindset and readiness to contribute wherever needed
- Energy, curiosity, and ambition to grow a marketing career
Experience or awareness of Māori or Pacific markets and communities, together with cultural capability, would be an added advantage.
Additional Information
This is a permanent, full-time role based in Ōtepoti, Dunedin, with a 37.5-hour working week.
The salary range for the position is $69,931 to $74,609, and the maximum point on the range is $80,285.
Applicants must have the legal right to live and work in New Zealand.
The University offers a competitive remuneration package, 5 weeks of annual leave, a 6.75% superannuation contribution, and a strong emphasis on work-life balance, along with the chance to grow within a supportive and high-performing team.
