Role Purpose
The Mechanical Engineer will provide essential support for the successful execution of mechanical works on construction projects. This role involves assisting in the review, coordination, and implementation of design and construction activities directly on site. Reporting to the Design Manager and working under the supervision of the Senior Mechanical Engineer, the position contributes to critical tasks such as reviewing shop drawings, conducting site inspections, managing technical documentation, and facilitating multidisciplinary coordination. The primary objective is to ensure all mechanical works adhere strictly to approved drawings, project specifications, and overall project requirements. This is a site-focused role responsible for addressing daily construction challenges and supporting technical processes. A key aspect of this role includes actively contributing to the creation of detailed drawings, sketches, and mark-ups using CAD/BIM software to resolve issues like routing adjustments, coordination conflicts, and temporary works, aiming for practical and timely solutions without excessive reliance on dedicated drafting teams.
Key Accountabilities & Key Activities
Site & Construction Support (Mechanical)
- Offer daily mechanical engineering assistance on the construction site, addressing queries, requests for information (RFIs), and technical clarifications.
- Examine mechanical installations (including HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems) to confirm they align with approved drawings and project specifications.
- Identify and report any mechanical site issues, deviations, or non-compliance instances to the Senior Mechanical Engineer.
- Facilitate coordination of mechanical tasks with structural, architectural, electrical, and fit-out workstreams to prevent clashes and execution conflicts.
- Aid in the oversight of mechanical system inspections, testing, and commissioning phases.
- Generate and update sketches, mark-ups, and basic mechanical drawings or details using CAD software to facilitate on-site construction.
- Assist in developing redline drawings and documenting as-built conditions based on the actual site status.
- Provide direct drafting support using AutoCAD, Revit, or BIM tools as needed to efficiently resolve site-related problems.
- Ensure all distributed sketches and drawings are clear, well-coordinated, and consistent with the approved design intent.
Shop Drawings, Submittals & As-Built Support
- Review mechanical shop drawings, material submissions, and construction method statements under guidance.
- Confirm that all submissions comply with the design intent, project specifications, and established standards.
- Assist in formulating technical feedback and monitoring the progress of submittals.
- Verify that approved shop drawings and materials are correctly implemented at the construction site.
- Support the creation and verification process for mechanical as-built drawings and associated documentation.
Technical Queries, RFIs & NCR Management
- Help in formulating responses to RFIs, Technical Queries (TQs), and requests for site clarifications.
- Assist in the investigation and resolution of Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs), site observations, and quality-related issues.
- Collaborate with the Senior Mechanical Engineer to resolve technical and coordination challenges.
- Maintain organized records of technical communications and site-based decisions.
Coordination & Communication
- Liaise with site engineers, subcontractors, and suppliers on all mechanical engineering matters.
- Act as a point of contact with other project disciplines, such as Architectural, Structural, and Electrical teams, to ensure integrated project delivery.
- Participate in coordination meetings and provide progress updates to senior management.
- Ensure adherence to document control procedures and project workflows.
Continuous Improvement & Knowledge Sharing
- Enhance understanding of mechanical systems, installation techniques, and coordination methodologies.
- Contribute to initiatives focused on lessons learned and ongoing process improvement.
- Seek mentorship from senior engineers and actively participate in team knowledge exchange.
- Promote the adoption of best practices in mechanical construction quality and execution.
