Role Overview

This opportunity is for a Senior Data Scientist who enjoys working where advanced AI meets practical business impact. The role involves collaborating with sophisticated APAC organizations to help them move from initial AI exploration to measurable value across predictive and generative AI use cases.

This is a client-facing, solution-oriented position rather than a research-only role. You will work closely with executives, data science teams, and business stakeholders to develop solutions, deliver enablement programs, and convert complex AI concepts into outcomes that leaders can act on. You will be supported by a highly experienced team, including Kaggle Grandmasters, and by H2O.ai’s platform capabilities across AutoML, LLM Studio, and agentic AI tooling. The position is based in Sydney, Australia.

What You Will Do

  • Work with stakeholders to design and deliver data-driven AI and machine learning solutions across sectors including banking, insurance, retail, healthcare, and manufacturing.
  • Create, test, and deploy predictive machine learning models for forecasting, classification, optimization, and anomaly detection.
  • Use statistical and machine learning methods such as regression, decision trees, ensembles, time series, and clustering based on the business problem.
  • Explore generative AI methods where appropriate, including large language models, small language models, retrieval-augmented generation, prompt design, and basic agentic workflows.
  • Carry out the full data science lifecycle, from data exploration and feature creation through modeling, evaluation, and interpretation.
  • Convert model results into clear, practical insights for business decision-makers.
  • Partner with engineering teams to help move models into production.

What You Need

  • At least 4 years of experience in data science, machine learning, or applied AI.
  • A strong foundation in predictive ML, including feature engineering, model choice, evaluation, and interpretability.
  • Experience handling real-world datasets and defining business problems in a structured way.
  • Exposure to GenAI concepts such as LLMs, SLMs, RAG, prompt engineering, or agentic workflows.
  • Solid Python programming ability.
  • Awareness of deployment and MLOps concepts.
  • Excellent communication, storytelling, and presentation skills.

Nice to Have

  • Experience using H2O products.
  • Participation in Kaggle competitions or similar applied machine learning work.
  • Exposure to cloud environments or production ML systems.
  • Background in A/B testing or causal inference.
  • Experience with SLMs or agentic AI.
  • Open-source contributions, research involvement, or technical writing.

Why Join H2O.ai

  • Competitive total rewards.
  • Remote-friendly working culture.
  • Flexible work environment.
  • Opportunity to work with a highly skilled global team.
  • Room for career growth.
