Role overview
Join a local team in Te Matau-a-Māui, Hawke’s Bay, where long-standing community relationships and project delivery go hand in hand. The business has contributed to important 3 Waters infrastructure work and is now handling a broad pipeline of projects that will shape the region for years to come. Hawke’s Bay also offers an appealing lifestyle, with beaches, wineries, art deco heritage and easy access to the outdoors. Relocation support may be available for the right candidate.
This position is for an accomplished Senior Project Manager to steer delivery of a varied portfolio of 3 Waters and infrastructure resilience projects, including treatment plants, pumping stations, reservoirs and connected network works.
What the role involves
You will work through the full project lifecycle, from initial feasibility and planning through delivery and handover. The position calls for strong leadership and strategic oversight, along with a hands-on approach when needed for day-to-day tasks such as issuing instructions, running meetings and keeping clients updated through clear reporting.
The role suits someone who has successfully delivered complex infrastructure work in stakeholder-heavy environments and can confidently guide projects through every stage.
Why this opportunity stands out
You will be part of a supportive, high-performing local team backed by a larger national organisation. The company aims to give people autonomy, trust their judgement and create room to lead without unnecessary barriers.
In return, you can expect a strong salary package, the chance to become an employee shareholder in the long term, flexible working arrangements, and support for ongoing development through networking, industry memberships and professional learning. The culture also includes regular social events, wellbeing activities and opportunities to grow both personally and professionally.
Experience and capability needed
You should bring substantial post-graduate experience in civil engineering, project delivery or construction management, including time spent in a consultant or client-side project management role. The focus is on infrastructure delivery experience, particularly as the client’s representative on significant projects.
Your background should include:
- Roughly 8 or more years of post-graduate experience in civil engineering, project delivery or construction management.
- Exposure to client-side or consultant project management responsibilities.
- A relevant STEM qualification such as Civil Engineering or Construction Project Management.
- A current driver’s licence and willingness to travel to local and regional project sites.
- Broad civil infrastructure project delivery experience across all stages, especially 3 Waters assets; building project experience is an advantage.
- Capability to lead design and technical teams while managing multiple stakeholders and consenting processes.
- Confidence to challenge ideas, work through issues and develop practical solutions.
- Strong contract administration capability, including preparing detailed contract documents, correspondence and reports.
- Hands-on experience with NZS3910/NZS3916 contracts in the role of Engineer’s Representative.
- A solid understanding of New Zealand building regulations and legislation, together with a strong commitment to health and safety.
