About the Role
Invarium Insurance is a lean digital insurer focused on non-life products in Zimbabwe, and it is looking for an Underwriting Manager to build and lead its underwriting capability from the ground up.
This position carries technical ownership of the underwriting portfolio. The successful candidate will guide risk selection, ensure pricing remains sound and disciplined, and maintain compliance with all applicable regulatory requirements across the full range of products. The role also includes setting underwriting standards, creating rating tools, supporting the launch and registration of new products, and overseeing the company’s reinsurance programme. During the annual treaty renewal period in the fourth quarter, the role is expected to require extended availability and strong attention.
Responsibilities
- Assess risks across all approved product lines and decide whether to price, accept, or decline them.
- Build, update, and maintain pricing models and rating tools.
- Track portfolio results and loss performance, then implement underwriting actions where needed.
- Drive the design and regulatory registration of new insurance products.
- Oversee both facultative and treaty reinsurance arrangements.
- Prepare underwriting analysis and reports for management and the Board.
Requirements
- A bachelor’s degree in Insurance, Risk Management, Actuarial Science, Law, or another relevant discipline.
- A recognised professional qualification such as IIZ, ACII, AIISA, or an equivalent credential.
- Between five and seven years of progressive experience in short-term insurance, including two to three years in a senior underwriting or technical role.
- Working knowledge of the Insurance Act and the IPEC requirements for product registration.
- Hands-on experience in a Core Insurance System environment.
Application Instructions
