About the role

Jetstar is looking for a UX/UI Designer to join its Digital team in Melbourne. The role focuses on improving the experience and interaction design across Jetstar’s digital platforms, helping shape customer journeys end to end.

This position sits within agile squads and works closely with Product Owners, Business Analysts, and Developers. You will champion usability, accessibility, and creative problem-solving while turning customer insights into practical design solutions.

This opportunity is offered in two formats: one permanent full-time role and one fixed-term full-time role running until May 2027. The role is based at the company’s head office in Melbourne CBD, with a hybrid setup requiring three days on site.

What you’ll do

You will lead design work from early concept through to final delivery, using research and insight to guide decisions and improve the customer experience.

  • Plan and shape responsive digital experiences from initial ideas through to production-ready outputs.
  • Carry out user research using both moderated and unmoderated methods to inform design decisions.
  • Translate findings into wireframes, concepts, prototypes, and polished user interfaces.
  • Design scalable UI patterns and reusable components that support the evolving design system.
  • Partner with cross-functional stakeholders to solve complex product and customer problems.
  • Explain and defend design choices using research, data, and clear storytelling.
  • Support accessibility-first design that works for people with a wide range of abilities.
  • Contribute to a growing design culture and help improve design ways of working.
  • Work effectively in a fast-moving environment where priorities may shift quickly.
  • Explore the use of AI tools to improve workflow efficiency and accelerate ideation without replacing design judgement.

What we’re looking for

The ideal candidate is a confident design practitioner with strong experience in digital product work, user-centred thinking, and collaborative delivery.

  • At least 3 years of experience in a dedicated design role within cross-functional teams or a digital agency.
  • Strong interaction and visual design capability, with attention to detail across both small and complex user journeys.
  • Ability to understand customer needs, behaviours, and motivations and turn them into design opportunities.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence others through reasoning and evidence.
  • A proactive, growth-oriented mindset and the confidence to step up when leadership is needed.
  • Comfort working with ambiguity, shifting priorities, and a high-paced operating environment.
  • Interest in helping shape design operations and a collaborative learning culture.
  • Strong commitment to accessibility and inclusive digital design.
  • Advanced working knowledge of Figma, including production-ready design files and detailed specifications.
  • Bonus experience with Askable for user testing and Dovetail for insight management.
  • Working understanding of agile software development and the designer’s role within it.
