Role overview

FORREST ARCHITECTS is seeking a casual or temporary Architectural Designer/Technician for a fixed-term assignment running from July through September 2026. The position is based in Auckland and involves supporting the team with architectural, technical, and administrative work, with a particular emphasis on documentation, coordination, and Building Consent tasks. The ideal person will be highly organised, self-driven, detail-focused, and able to handle several priorities at once.

What you'll do

• Contribute to architectural drafting and project documentation for active jobs.
• Help prepare Building Consent material and draft responses to RFIs.
• Keep BC lodgement folders and checklists accurate, complete, and up to date.
• Assist with Building Consent submissions, including lodgement through council or PBC processes.
• Coordinate RFIs and supporting documentation with consultants and council representatives.
• Check drawings and provide design and documentation assistance where needed.
• Look up and apply relevant building codes, regulations, and standards.
• Support construction detailing tasks and technical research efforts.
• Help maintain office systems, drawing standards, and library resources.
• Take on general office duties such as phone answering, project folder management, and keeping the workspace organised.

What we're looking for

Applicants should have prior experience in an architectural practice, drafting position, or technician role. A solid grasp of New Zealand Building Consent documentation and procedures is important, along with the ability to stay productive in a busy environment while managing multiple tasks. Strong attention to detail, the ability to work to deadlines, and clear communication and organisation skills are essential. We are also looking for someone with a proactive approach and a cooperative, team-oriented attitude. Experience using architectural software such as Revit or AutoCAD is preferred, and familiarity with New Zealand codes and council processes would be beneficial.
