Role Overview
The Art Studio Supervisor position at Sundance Mountain Resort is a year-round, full-time leadership role focused on keeping the studio’s front desk and guest-facing operations running smoothly. This person supports visitors, coordinates the reception team, and helps create a polished, welcoming experience that reflects the resort’s creative and hospitality standards.
The role also serves as a bridge between guests, artists, and internal teams, helping ensure that daily studio activities are organized, efficient, and consistent with the Sundance brand.
Pay, Schedule, and Employment Details
Compensation is $18.00 per hour plus 1% commission. This is a non-exempt hourly role. The standard schedule is 5 days per week from 9:30 am to 5:30 pm. The position is full-time and year-round. Weekend, holiday, and special-event coverage may be required depending on business needs.
Key Duties
- Greet guests in a friendly manner and help them enjoy the studio experience, whether they are browsing, purchasing items, or attending a class.
- Oversee everyday studio operations, including guest service, front-desk workflow, and overall cleanliness.
- Coach, train, and support reception staff and seasonal team members.
- Handle guest questions and concerns with professionalism, patience, and care.
- Build strong working knowledge of the studio’s classes, services, and retail products.
- Use the POS system to process sales, balance and close registers, and ensure payments are handled accurately.
- Pack and ship artwork such as glass and pottery carefully, while keeping sustainability in mind.
- Maintain inventory records, assist with monthly audits, and replenish supplies when needed.
- Manage phone calls, email communication, and scheduling tools.
- Help with studio merchandising, seasonal decorations, and event-related support as needed.
- Represent Sundance values by supporting land preservation, environmental stewardship, and artistic expression.
Supervisory Duties
- Support and direct front-line studio staff during assigned shifts.
- Help onboard and train new team members.
- Keep management informed and share ideas for improving operations.
- Step in for the Art Studio Manager when needed.
Required Background
- Experience in customer service or hospitality, preferably in a retail or arts-related setting.
- Strong verbal communication and leadership abilities.
- Excellent organization and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently while managing several priorities at once.
- Comfort with common workplace systems such as scheduling software, POS tools, and email.
- Interest in the arts and creative learning environments.
Preferred Experience
- Exposure to visual arts, art instruction, or studio operations.
- Previous experience leading a team or supervising staff.
- Familiarity with art supplies and studio practices such as ceramics or painting.
Work Environment
The work setting may occasionally involve wet or humid conditions, moving machinery, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic substances, and outdoor weather exposure. Noise levels are generally moderate.
