Role Overview
The Assistant Manager - Cloud Operations will help run, stabilize, secure, and improve Azure and Google Cloud Platform (GCP) environments on a day-to-day basis. This position partners with infrastructure, security, application, service desk, vendors, managed service providers, and internal stakeholders to keep cloud services dependable, protected, scalable, and aligned with business needs.
The role also contributes to Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) practices, including service uptime, monitoring, incident handling, reliability enhancements, automation, and overall operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee routine operations across Microsoft Azure and Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
- Track cloud health, service availability, system performance, capacity, and incident trends.
- Contribute to SRE activities such as reliability tracking, availability improvements, incident response, service health checks, and operational automation.
- Handle incidents, service requests, escalations, and root cause analysis for cloud services.
- Help implement and sustain cloud governance practices, including policies, standards, tagging, and compliance controls.
- Analyze cloud spend and usage, including reserved capacity, rightsizing, and cleanup of unused resources.
- Work with vendors, managed service providers, and internal teams to close operational issues.
- Support native backup, disaster recovery, high availability, and business continuity processes.
- Keep cloud documentation current, including runbooks, architecture diagrams, and knowledge base content.
- Assist with cloud security operations such as IAM reviews, network security, patching, vulnerability fixes, encryption, and access governance.
- Support automation and Infrastructure as Code initiatives using tools like Terraform.
- Monitor operational KPIs including availability, incident resolution, SLA adherence, policy breaches, cost efficiency, reliability measures, and documentation completeness.
- Take part in change management, release coordination, and operational readiness reviews.
- Assist with audits, compliance assessments, and risk remediation for Azure and GCP infrastructure.
Required Experience and Skills
- At least 5 years of practical experience in cloud operations, cloud engineering, infrastructure operations, SRE, or similar technical roles.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Azure and/or Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
- Solid understanding of cloud networking, identity, compute, storage, monitoring, backup, security, and high availability.
- Experience with incident, problem, change, and service request processes.
- Understanding of SRE principles such as availability, reliability, monitoring, alerting, incident response, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement.
- Familiarity with ITIL practices and IT service management tools.
- Good knowledge of cloud security, IAM, RBAC, network security groups/firewalls, encryption, vulnerability management, and compliance controls.
- Ability to coordinate effectively with vendors, managed service providers, and cross-functional teams.
- Strong troubleshooting, communication, documentation, and stakeholder management skills.
- Experience with automation or scripting tools such as Terraform, PowerShell, or Python is preferred.
