Business Analyst

Role overview

This six-month contract is for a Business Analyst who can support a major separation program by analysing the operating model, business processes, systems, data and regulatory requirements. The role is focused on identifying what is impacted by the divestment, documenting those needs clearly and helping the team move practical solutions forward. The goal is to support the creation of a viable standalone Energy Solutions business while protecting value and reducing delivery risk.

Core responsibilities

The position covers business analysis across operating model design, market and regulatory analysis, requirements definition, data and financial insight, and stakeholder coordination. It requires a hands-on approach to translating complex separation needs into actionable outputs that support delivery within tight transaction timeframes.

Business and operating model analysis

• Assess the current and future operating models across the functions in scope, highlighting interdependencies, process gaps, control impacts and transition needs required for a standalone business.
• Trace links across retail, commercial, project, systems, reporting, finance, regulatory and support areas, then work with stakeholders to shape workable separation approaches and an effective sequence of activities.
• Evaluate transitional service requirements where existing processes, systems, data, registrations, controls or support capabilities sit within the wider retail business and need interim or permanent replacements.
• Maintain the materials needed to progress the separation program, such as process maps, impact analyses, requirements documents, dependency logs, decision records, options papers and implementation actions.

Market, regulatory and commercial analysis

• Provide analytical input on energy market regulation, with emphasis on C&I customers, retail market interfaces, DER/CER participation models and the relevant regulatory setting.
• Interpret market rules, obligations, procedures and reform changes to understand business impacts, separation considerations and the capabilities needed in the future state.
• Partner with commercial, finance and operations teams to compare options, assess impacts, surface risks and support decisions that balance compliance, practicality, timing and value protection.

Process, systems and requirements analysis

• Gather, analyse and document business, functional and non-functional requirements across systems, operational workflows, reporting, controls and customer processes connected to the carve-out and future operating model.
• Work with business and technology teams to convert operational needs into clear requirements, user stories, process designs, data definitions and feasible solution options.
• Assist with testing, readiness and implementation activities, including requirements traceability, process validation, issue tracking and go-live support where needed.

Financial, data and insight support

• Carry out financial, operational and data analysis when needed to support internal decision-making.
• Review data sources, business rules and reporting outputs to understand the effects of system or process changes.
• Help prepare management packs and insight materials that support leadership decisions.

Stakeholder engagement and delivery support

• Serve as a central point of contact between business, IT, operations, commercial, finance, legal and regulatory stakeholders so that issues are understood and actions continue to progress.
• Run workshops, interviews and working sessions to remove ambiguity, test assumptions, align cross-functional stakeholders and drive practical outcomes.
• Maintain a delivery-focused mindset, switching between strategy, process, systems, regulation and commercial analysis to keep the program moving.
• Raise risks, blockers and unresolved decisions early, clearly outlining implications, options and recommended next steps.

Working relationships

Key internal stakeholders include Energy Solutions leadership, IT/Digital, Finance, Legal, HSSE, retail operations and other shared service teams involved in the carve-out.

About you

You should bring senior-level business analysis experience in complex, cross-functional environments, ideally involving target operating model design, transformation or separation/carve-out work. Strong knowledge of the Australian energy market, retail energy operations, utilities and DER/CER models is important, along with the ability to connect commercial, operational, financial, regulatory and system processes.

You will need to be confident mapping current and future state processes, identifying dependencies and control impacts, and developing practical options for transition and implementation. Excellent communication, workshop facilitation and stakeholder engagement skills are essential, especially when working across both technical and non-technical teams.

Qualifications

A tertiary qualification in Business, Commerce, Economics, Finance, Information Systems, Engineering or a similar field is preferred. Certification in business analysis, project delivery or change may be an advantage. Relevant industry experience in the Australian energy, utilities or retail energy sector may be accepted instead of formal qualifications where appropriate.
