About The Bartlett and UCL
The Bartlett is UCL’s global Faculty of the Built Environment. Its schools, institutes, centres and units each contribute specialist leadership in their own areas, and together they address major global challenges through a multidisciplinary approach shaped by UCL’s distinctive spirit. The faculty’s ambition is to support a built world that improves outcomes for people and the environment.
With 13 schools, institutes, centres and units, The Bartlett spans a wide range of disciplines and programmes, and educates and researches across many subject areas for more than 4,000 students from around the world each year. This position sits within The Bartlett Marketing and Communications team, which leads strategic communications and marketing activity for the faculty and its departments.
About the role
This is a fixed-term appointment ending on 30 April 2027. The Communications Manager will help strengthen the profile and reputation of The Bartlett Faculty of the Built Environment and its academic departments as a leading international centre for education and research.
The postholder will take ownership of an effective communications programme for internal and external audiences, primarily through digital channels such as the website, social media and email. The role is also an opportunity to move into a management position, shape creative campaigns, and develop the faculty’s brand story through communications content, publications and public-facing events.
What you will do
You will plan and deliver communications activity that engages different audiences and supports the faculty’s goals. You will work across digital and print outputs, oversee website content within a content management system such as Drupal, and help optimise materials to keep them accurate, engaging and effective.
You will collaborate with colleagues and stakeholders across the organisation, provide guidance where needed, and use communications data and analytics to assess performance and improve future activity. The role also requires balancing several priorities at once, applying initiative and sound judgement, and contributing positively to team delivery and development.
About you
You should be an experienced communications specialist with a strong background in integrated campaigns across digital and print channels for varied audiences. You will need excellent writing skills and the ability to tailor content for different platforms, stakeholders and purposes while keeping messaging clear, engaging and precise.
Strong stakeholder management is essential, along with the confidence to advise others and build productive relationships at all levels. You should be comfortable working independently in a complex setting, handling competing demands, spotting opportunities, resolving issues, and using insight from communications data to shape improvements.
