Role Summary

This is a full-time, on-site position in Mombasa County, Kenya. The Declaration Officer will manage customs declaration preparation and submission, review supporting documents, and help ensure all activities comply with the applicable customs laws and regulations. The role also requires close coordination with internal colleagues, customs authorities, and clients to secure the information needed for smooth clearance.

Key Duties

The position covers correct goods classification, resolving clearance-related issues, monitoring shipment movement, and ensuring cargo is released on time. It also involves keeping declaration and approval records accurate, updating relevant systems, tracking changes in regulatory requirements, and supporting ongoing improvements to customs procedures.

Qualifications and Experience

Applicants should have a solid working knowledge of customs clearance steps, tariff classification, and import/export rules. Experience in logistics, freight forwarding, or shipping operations is preferred, especially in Mombasa or similar port settings. Practical skill in handling documents, data entry, and customs or port management systems is important.

Strong attention to detail, analytical ability, and the capacity to interpret legal and compliance requirements are needed. Good communication and teamwork skills are also essential for dealing with clients, customs officers, and internal teams. The ability to juggle several files, organize priorities, and work to tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment is important. A diploma or degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business Administration, or a related discipline is an added advantage. Prior work as a declaration officer or in a customs-related position is highly desirable.
