Role Overview

This position is for a Design Engineer based 100% on-site in Aliso Viejo, California. The role sits within the Product Development team, whose purpose is to bring new products and technologies to market on time. In this role, you will turn ideas into developed concepts using CAD and fast iteration methods, working closely with several teams to move products from concept through production.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop fresh product ideas through CAD work, hand sketches, prototype building, and repeated design refinement.
• Convert early concepts into practical, manufacturable solutions while considering performance, appearance, cost, and production feasibility.
• Prepare production-ready CAD files along with the technical documentation needed to support manufacturing.
• Create engineering drawings, exploded assemblies, bills of materials, and other build documentation.
• Construct and test prototypes using rapid prototyping and hands-on fabrication methods.
• Work in close coordination with engineering, testing, sourcing, manufacturing, and marketing partners during the full development cycle.
• Carry forward assigned projects with direction and coaching from senior colleagues.
• Monitor project milestones and provide progress updates to the Design Manager.

Requirements

• A degree in Engineering or Industrial Design, or comparable professional experience.
• 1 to 3 years of experience in product design or product development.
• Ability to create complex CAD models.
• Solid understanding of engineering fundamentals, materials, and manufacturing methods.
• Familiarity with rapid prototyping and additive manufacturing approaches.
• Practical experience building and assessing physical prototypes.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications such as Excel, PowerPoint, and Word, or similar productivity tools.
• Proven ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams.
• Strong organizational, verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
• Self-driven approach with strong attention to detail and the ability to juggle multiple priorities.

Preferred Qualifications

• More than 5 years of product development experience, ideally in sporting goods or other consumer products.
• Advanced skill with SolidWorks.
• Experience with surface modeling.
• Exposure to Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, or comparable creative software.
• Experience creating photorealistic renderings with tools such as KeyShot or PhotoView 360.
• Experience with non-parametric CAD platforms such as Alias or Rhino.
• Working knowledge of carbon fiber composites, plastic injection molding, and metal fabrication processes.
• Hands-on experience assembling, maintaining, and testing high-performance bicycles.
• A genuine interest in cycling and an understanding of what performance-focused riders need.

Working Conditions

• The office is located in Orange County, California.
• Some travel may be required, ranging from 0% to 15% for domestic and international trips.

Physical Requirements

The role includes physical tasks that may involve standing, walking, using hands and fingers, handling objects, reaching overhead, lifting, pushing, climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, pulling, talking, and hearing. The position may require lifting or moving up to 50 pounds. Vision should be correctable to normal range, and the work environment is quiet. Compensation

The estimated pay range for this role is $82,000 to $103,000, depending on experience, qualifications, and industry background.
