Role overview
This opportunity is being shared on behalf of a partner organization, which will oversee applications and the rest of the hiring process. The partner is seeking a Developer Portal & Community Manager in New Zealand.
The role is central to how a technically advanced open hardware product is explained, documented, and adopted by its worldwide developer audience. You will be responsible for the Developer Portal from end to end, turning it into a dependable, well-organized source of truth for engineers, contributors, and enthusiasts. In close collaboration with hardware and software teams, you will convert internal engineering work into public-facing documentation and community updates that are easy to follow and genuinely useful. This is a highly hands-on technical communication role, where real product understanding matters as much as the ability to explain it. You will also serve as the connection point between engineering teams and the external community, helping information move smoothly in both directions. The setting is collaborative, fast paced, and strongly focused on openness and transparent development.
What you'll do
- Take ownership of the Developer Portal, keeping its structure, content, and quality continuously improved so it remains reliable for contributors and developers.
- Convert engineering conversations, technical progress, and product updates into documentation that is clear, practical, and accessible to a wider audience.
- Manage wiki content, GitHub repositories, and other developer resources across several sub-projects.
- Join engineering discussions and team meetings to stay in sync with current development activity and product direction.
- Review and moderate community input, including contributions, discussions, issues, and pull requests, to keep collaboration constructive and relevant.
- Gather developer feedback, interpret the most useful signals, and share those insights with internal teams.
- Keep community communication organized, productive, and aligned with project objectives.
- Support developers in understanding how to use the portal, contribute effectively, and participate in the wider ecosystem.
Requirements
- Strong written communication ability, with a track record of producing technical documentation, guides, or README-style content that is easy to follow.
- Good knowledge of software development workflows, including Git, branching, commits, and pull requests.
- Capability to simplify complex technical ideas into well-structured explanations, using diagrams or flowcharts where useful.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to extract important points from technical conversations.
- Comfort working directly with engineers and taking part in technical discussions across both hardware and software areas.
- Ability to tell the difference between useful input and low-value noise, while maintaining high standards in community discussions and contributions.
- Strong sense of organization, with attention to structure, clarity, and information architecture.
- Real interest in developer tools, hardware products, open-source ecosystems, and build-in-public style development culture.
- Fluent English and Russian for communication across teams and with the community.
- Prior exposure to DevRel, technical writing, community management, or developer portals is a plus.
Benefits
- Fully remote setup with the freedom to work from anywhere in the world.
- Company-provided equipment to support a productive and comfortable home workspace.
- Health and wellness support, including medical coverage, therapy sessions, and sports-related programs.
- Language learning support and opportunities for professional growth.
- Flexible hours within a structured five-day workweek.
- The chance to contribute to innovative open hardware and software initiatives.
- Visible impact on how a global developer community understands and engages with a major product ecosystem.
- A collaborative, transparent, engineering-led work environment.
