Role Summary
The Fire Engineer role in Bharuch is a full-time position focused on maintaining fire safety across the site. The job calls for strong knowledge of fire protection systems, compliance requirements, and emergency response planning. The selected professional will support fire risk evaluations, simulation-based analysis, and the implementation of practical measures that strengthen plant safety.
Key Accountabilities
- Respond immediately to emergency situations, including mock drills, and arrange the necessary resources to control and contain incidents.
- Prepare and review risk assessment sheets for specific tasks, making revisions whenever required.
- Support shift fire executives during normal operations as well as emergency situations.
- Take part in plant-level risk assessment discussions for critical jobs and confirm that suitable fire-prevention controls are in place, including during shutdowns and turnarounds.
- Plan and allocate fire-fighting and response resources effectively.
- Apply incident command and control methods to manage and reduce emergencies.
- Train shift fire staff and other team members on fire safety and emergency response.
- Keep all firefighting equipment, systems, and communication tools available and ready for immediate use.
- Monitor the reliability and functioning of fire vehicles, including fire trucks and jeeps.
- Recommend corrective actions based on incident findings and analysis.
- Ensure adequate material stock and inventory control at all fire stations.
- Conduct fire safety inspection rounds across the plant.
- Carry out initial incident investigations and issue turnout reports.
- Plan and lead daily fire drills and physical training sessions.
- Confirm that all scheduled activities are completed within the shift at each fire station.
- Support site-wide fire prevention efforts.
- Ensure adherence to fire safety standards, procedures, practices, and checklists.
- Maintain logbooks, occurrence records, and other shift-related documentation.
Skills and Competencies
This role requires the ability to identify hidden hazards, anticipate escalation paths, and choose appropriate fire-fighting strategies for process, tank farm, or marine emergency scenarios. The engineer should be capable of guiding emergency teams, coordinating with responders, and selecting the right equipment and resources for effective control. Strong fire safety management, planning, and decision-making skills are essential.
Education and Experience
A B.E. in Fire Engineering is required. Applicants should have relevant experience that matches one of the following profiles: more than 3 years for an engineering graduate, more than 12 years for a Station Fire Officer or Grad I, or more than 16 years of post-qualification experience for a Sub Officer.
