Role overview
Greater Wellington is hiring a GIS Analyst to join its supportive ICT Data and Information team. This is a full-time fixed-term position running until May 2028, based in the modern Cuba Street office in Wellington.
The role sits within the Data and Information Management team, which delivers GIS support, data analytics, information management expertise, and strategic direction. The team helps Greater Wellington unlock automation and efficiency through advanced analytical capability and strong geospatial services.
In this role, you will work with the organisation’s geographic information assets, carry out spatial analysis, build mapping applications and tools, and help users get the most value from GIS systems and datasets. You will also provide guidance, support, and training so spatial data can meet a broad and evolving range of business needs.
Key responsibilities
- Analyse geospatial data to support business and operational decisions.
- Design and develop mapping tools and applications.
- Support GIS users through training and practical assistance.
- Help ensure spatial data remains useful, accurate, and adaptable to a variety of requirements.
- Contribute to the management of Greater Wellington’s digital library of maps and related geographic information.
Skills and experience
Applicants should bring either a relevant tertiary qualification or equivalent proven capability in geospatial data analysis within a similar organisation. Strong technical, analytical, and communication skills are important, along with hands-on knowledge of Esri platforms and geospatial integration tools.
