Role overview

This position is for an Operations Engineer - Shift in the Asset Operations stream under the Manufacturing family. The role is centered on keeping production activities running smoothly throughout shifts by guiding the shift crew and assisting the shift superintendent with operations and equipment maintenance. The aim is to consistently meet production targets while upholding safety and quality expectations.

Core responsibilities

• Help prepare the shift operating plan and carry out daily activities in accordance with defined standards and regulatory requirements.
• Roll out new initiatives and projects as per approved policies to support future shift operation needs.
• Share suggestions for improving site procedures and technical specifications so they stay aligned with established best practices.
• Track equipment condition, support predictive maintenance, and analyze data using OMPro to improve site performance.
• Carry out routine equipment checks and monitor process parameters to spot problems early, while coordinating with the right teams to speed up maintenance and ensure safe handover of equipment.
• Oversee safe shutdowns, smooth restarts, and proper preservation of equipment and facilities during prolonged outages.
• Take early action to identify risks and hazards so emergency shutdowns are minimized and operations remain safe and efficient.
• Investigate the root cause of failures and recommend corrective troubleshooting actions to reduce repeat issues.
• Carry out PIOs and assist with sample and improvement trials during shifts so work is completed without disruption; support PO activities during plant upsets.
• Maintain accurate shift logs with complete and consistent records of all relevant operational details.
• Manage rotary machine seal systems and keep seal pot level and pressure within the required range.
• Coordinate with other plants to maintain the SOCs of raw materials.

Safety and compliance

• Conduct risk assessments during handovers, takeovers, and process jobs, and lead toolbox talks before task execution to reinforce safe working practices.
• Ensure safety procedures are followed so the workplace remains secure for all personnel and incidents are prevented.
• Identify near-miss events through root cause analysis, document them properly, and report them to help detect trends and prevent recurrence.
• Drive adherence to the work permit system and make sure plant operations follow all relevant rules and guidelines.
• Resolve issues related to the incident classification system (API754) and update the portal entries whenever needed.

Performance measures

• Compliance with the production plan.
• Number of field rounds completed.
• Number of entries made in the SD job register.
• Number of deviations found in the work permit during audit.
• Number of unplanned jobs handled in the plant.
• Number of workplace incidents in the plant.

Working relationships

Internal contacts include the Site Operations Team, Compliance Team, Health & Safety Team, HR Team, and others. External interactions may include vendors, regulators, and local communities.

Qualifications and experience

A Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering or Chemical Technology is required. The role calls for 3 to 7 years of experience as a shift engineer in site operations, including at least 2 years working as a panel executive.
