About the organisation
YRGMERF, founded in 1993, is a long-standing nonprofit in India focused on integrated healthcare, community-led partnerships, and research that supports lasting improvements in public health. Its work centres on prevention, care, support, and treatment for people affected by HIV and other infectious diseases, with an emphasis on sustainability, integrity, and equitable outcomes.
Role overview
This position involves direct field-based work to strengthen behaviour change efforts and increase use of health services among high-risk communities. You will coordinate with peer educators and other team members to run outreach initiatives, support referrals, keep documentation current, and help link communities to the care and services they need.
Key responsibilities
- Create and keep hotspot-wise micro plans up to date, and track whether they are being followed in the field.
- Help peer educators build the skills needed to conduct outreach in line with project procedures.
- Develop monthly action plans for each hotspot and ensure availability of condoms, needles, syringes, lubricants, and behaviour-change communication materials.
- Work with the counsellor every month to assess sites with weak service uptake and revise plans where needed.
- Complete a minimum of 20 field visits each month to the allocated areas, preferred providers, and referral centres.
- Oversee peer educators, gather monthly updates, maintain peer diaries, and send reports to the project office.
- Find and engage volunteers, prospective peer educators, and community stakeholders to support effective programme delivery.
- Track stock and distribution of condoms, needles, syringes, and IEC materials, while keeping proper records.
- Support crisis response efforts and ensure referred clients are followed up appropriately.
- Coordinate with the monitoring and evaluation assistant to ensure data is captured and reported accurately.
- Work with local influencers and stakeholders to build community support for the programme.
- Mobilise people for health camps, HIV testing, and counselling activities.
- For female outreach workers, the role also includes focused referral and service linkage for female injecting drug users and female relatives of people who inject drugs.
Requirements
- Education should be at least Class 8, along with a solid understanding of the local area and local language.
- Between 1 and 3 years of relevant experience in community outreach or health-related programmes is expected.
- Applicants from the intended target communities, such as female sex workers, MSM, transgender persons, migrants, or truckers, are strongly preferred.
- Experienced peer educators with at least 3 years of strong performance who can read and write may also be considered.
- Good communication ability and comfort working in small, flexible teams are essential.
- The role requires ease with data entry, report preparation, and compiling case studies.
- Candidates should be ready to spend at least 20 days each month in the field.
Benefits
- 24 days of annual leave, excluding public holidays.
- Health insurance support.
- A collaborative and inclusive workplace.
- Opportunities to learn and grow professionally.
- An equal-opportunity culture that values diversity across ability, gender, faith, ethnicity, and sexual orientation.
