Role Overview

The Quality Assurance (QA) Analyst supports the Division of Information Technology Services (ITS) by defining quality standards, building test coverage, and helping ensure that both internally built and commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) solutions meet required business and technical expectations. This role focuses on end-to-end testing, test case creation, and identifying opportunities for test automation across the software lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities

  • Help shape QA standards and testing controls for new products, enhancements, and application updates throughout the development lifecycle.
  • Confirm that testing validates business needs, system objectives, and end-user expectations while surfacing current or potential defects.
  • Review application documentation to understand intended behavior and technical design.
  • Convert business and functional requirements into structured test plans and test cases.
  • Run test cases to verify that in-house software, COTS products, and systems align with approved requirements.
  • Support the testing and deployment of internal and commercial applications across required environments.
  • Work with software and systems teams on system, regression, and load testing efforts.
  • Identify test scenarios that are suitable for automation and recommend them accordingly.
  • Use testing tools to automate integration and user interface testing.
  • Review formal test outcomes, report defects, and help resolve bugs, configuration issues, deployment issues, and interoperability problems.
  • Recommend enhancements to applications and systems for the Customer Engagement team.
  • Assess the effectiveness and efficiency of current systems and help define better testing approaches.
  • Support release decisions by providing defect information and QA input to management.
  • Advise on complex test functions, features, and bug-related issues.
  • Peer review the testing work of other QA analysts and provide coaching or feedback when needed.
  • Communicate progress, results, and other important testing updates to stakeholders and leadership.
  • Partner with software engineers to reinforce QA standards and support unit testing practices that encourage strong code quality.
  • Contribute to change control procedures, practices, and guidelines for both new and existing technologies.
  • Provide advanced Tier III customer support.
  • Support the ITS IT Service Management system by documenting knowledge and sharing information that improves service across the department.
  • Attend required meetings and training sessions.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Candidates should have a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university plus three years of relevant quality assurance or automated testing experience. As an alternative, applicants with three years of relevant QA/automated testing experience, or three years of experience as a Business Analyst or Software Engineer within the Colorado Judicial Department, may also qualify. Additional experience in related fields may be substituted for formal education on a year-for-year basis.
