Senior AI Engineer (Python)

Role overview

EPAM Systems is hiring a Senior AI Engineer (Python) for its Doha, Qatar office in an onsite setup. The position sits at the cutting edge of AI-led software engineering, with a focus on creating scalable, production-grade AI solutions and shifting development practices toward an AI specification-driven approach.

In this role, you will architect high-performance AI systems, improve operational efficiency, and help shape resilient agentic workflows. You will work with distributed engineering teams to strengthen standards, security, and reliability while advancing AI-enabled development practices.

Key responsibilities

• Architect and deliver AI search and retrieval systems that are tuned for low latency and strong relevance while using tokens efficiently.
• Create, refine, and operationalize AI specifications and templates to support automation for features, architecture, code, testing, and deployment.
• Develop measurement frameworks, metrics, and tooling to assess the efficiency, quality, and accuracy of AI-assisted development.
• Build complete production pipelines covering embeddings, vector stores, retrieval layers, prompt engineering, and LLM integration.
• Design and improve agent-based systems that coordinate multi-step actions within engineering workflows.
• Set up reliability and observability practices such as monitoring, CI/CD, version control, and reproducible deployments.
• Support and develop engineering and product teams through coaching, design reviews, and guidance on stronger AI engineering practices.
• Put in place safety controls, validation checks, and security guardrails to ensure dependable AI solutions.

Required profile

• A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a closely related discipline is required.
• At least 4 years of experience in building production-level AI systems, or at least 2 years focused on LLM and RAG solutions.
• Solid practical knowledge of Retrieval-Augmented Generation approaches, embeddings, and vector databases.
• Experience working with both commercial and self-hosted large language models.
• Hands-on exposure to agent frameworks such as LangChain or similar tools.
• Strong backend development ability, with Python as the main language and intermediate-level Java knowledge.
• Experience using REST and gRPC APIs, containerized environments, and Kubernetes-based deployment.
• Familiarity with cloud platforms and infrastructure automation tools such as Ansible.
• Good understanding of CI/CD practices applied to models, prompts, and testing in AI workflows.
• Knowledge of semantic search, embeddings, and large-scale vector indexing.
• Awareness of AI productivity assistants such as GitHub Copilot, GitLab Duo, or comparable tools.
