About the Opportunity
MMD Construction (Cork) Ltd is looking for a Site Engineer to support its project delivery team on active construction sites in Cork. The role sits at the centre of day-to-day site execution, combining setting out, surveying, quality checks, documentation, and coordination with the wider project team. Key Duties
- Carry out setting out, levelling, and surveying work using tools such as Total Station, GPS, and related equipment so construction aligns with drawings and specifications.
- Complete as-built surveys and keep survey records accurate and up to date for the full duration of the project.
- Examine engineering drawings, specifications, and quantities to confirm accuracy and identify any mismatches that need resolution.
- Check that site operations follow the required technical standards, quality procedures, and accepted engineering practices.
- Inspect work on site to confirm it matches design intent and quality-control expectations.
- Maintain site records, quality files, inspection paperwork, and survey information.
- Prepare clear and timely engineering reports, progress updates, and supporting project documents.
- Help plan and coordinate site activities to support smooth and efficient project delivery.
- Assist in applying engineering solutions and construction methods on site.
- Set up and preserve site control points, benchmarks, datums, and laser levels where needed.
- Work with the Project Manager, Site Manager, subcontractors, and design teams to resolve technical queries and site-related issues.
- Support the preparation and control of RFIs, method statements, inspection and test plans, and similar engineering documentation.
- Contribute to Health & Safety compliance and help maintain a safe working environment on site.
- Keep detailed site diaries covering progress, labour/resources, weather conditions, and engineering issues.
- Undertake additional engineering tasks as needed to help the project succeed.
Experience and Skills Needed
- At least 1 to 3 years of relevant experience in site engineering.
- Solid understanding of construction methods, setting-out processes, and quality-control practices.
- Background in coordinating subcontractors and site activities alongside site management teams.
- Ability to interpret engineering and architectural drawings, specifications, and method statements.
- Hands-on capability with surveying and setting-out equipment, along with site measurement techniques.
- Working knowledge of Irish Health & Safety legislation and the Construction Regulations 2013.
- Strong communication, organisation, and problem-solving abilities.
- High attention to detail with a consistent focus on accuracy, quality, and delivery.
- Comfortable using Microsoft Office and engineering software relevant to the job.
- Valid Safe Pass and Manual Handling certification are required.
