Venture Associate - ATX

Role overview

This position sits on the Venture Team and reports to the Venture Principal. It is based in Austin, Texas, with some travel involved. The role is designed to put you at the center of the Austin startup ecosystem, where over a two-year period you will build deep relationships across founders, investors, and community leaders while sourcing promising deal opportunities.

What you will do

• Connect with technology founders across Austin and guide them toward the right Capital Factory resources when appropriate.
• Represent the team at pitch competitions, hackathons, and other community events, both in person and online.
• Use social platforms such as Twitter and LinkedIn, along with other digital channels, to identify new startups and reach out to their founders.
• Build and maintain relationships with CEOs, angel investors, and venture capitalists, and invite them to attend VIP events as guests.
• Keep up with local startup coverage and participate actively in social media conversations.
• Prepare deal memos for the strongest startups considered for admission into Capital Factory.
• Work toward gaining the equivalent of ten years of venture capital exposure within two years.

How success will be measured

• Each month, four Austin startups are sponsored and accepted into Capital Factory.
• You can clearly articulate the value of joining Capital Factory, not only in terms of funding but also the strength of the community.
• You become highly visible in the ecosystem through weekly speaking appearances, panels, or regular participation in relevant events.
• Founders, mentors, and investors proactively come to you for introductions.
• Your office hours are consistently fully booked.
• Leads are entered into the CRM accurately and without delay.

What we are looking for

• At least 2 years of experience as a founder, employee, or investor at a technology startup.
• Strong enthusiasm for emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, blockchain, and robotics.
• An outgoing personality and the ability to hold conversations with a wide range of people.
• A highly organized, detail-oriented approach with comfort using lists and spreadsheets.
• Strong problem-solving ability and a mindset for creating systems out of complex situations.
• Good planning habits, flexibility, and the ability to adapt when plans change at the last minute.
• Willingness to check email in the evenings and work during evening events or weekends when deadlines are tight.
• A reliable laptop and smartphone that you are comfortable using for work.
• Intent to remain in Texas for at least 2 years.

• The ability to work remotely from a quiet space with fast internet.
• Security-conscious habits, including device passcodes and the use of a password manager.
• Comfort using Google Workspace tools such as Gmail, Drive, Docs, Sheets, and Slides.
• Availability during major events such as SXSW, DREAMCON, and Startup Week.
• A daily habit of keeping inboxes organized and reaching Inbox Zero.

Additional information

This role is onsite, though some travel is expected. Evening availability and weekend work may be required at times. Candidates should be prepared for community-facing work that can involve a wide range of personalities and high-energy events.
