Role Overview
This position supports the dining operation with essential food-service and sanitation work. The role reports to the Executive Chef and Director of Dining and operates under the guidance of the Assistant Director and Director of Dining Services. It is a nonexempt, hourly role focused on keeping service areas clean, stocked, and ready for use.
Key Duties
- Wash, sanitize, and clean dishes using the correct procedures at all times.
- Replenish dishware, silverware, paper towels, hand soap, and hand sanitizer as needed.
- Keep equipment and the work area clean, including sanitizing the dish machine and dish carts.
- Monitor dish machine temperatures and report equipment issues or breakdowns to the Assistant Director.
- Supervise, train, and support student workers.
- Assist cooks, pantry staff, or the pastry chef with preparation work when time permits.
- In the mornings, clean the women’s locker room and restroom, restock toiletries, and wash aprons and dish rags.
Skills and Working Knowledge
- Understanding of food production and service procedures.
- Basic command of English, including spelling, vocabulary, and usage.
- Comfort with simple math and record-related tasks.
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions accurately.
- Capability to learn workplace rules, procedures, and policies quickly.
- Strong multitasking skills in a busy, fast-moving setting.
- Ability to work across several areas at the same time.
- Physical stamina to stand for long periods and lift up to 50 lbs.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- At least 6 months of experience in food service, including food production.
Schedule and Work Conditions
- Monday through Wednesday and Friday: 6:00 AM to 3:00 PM.
- Every other weekend, including Saturday and Sunday: 6:00 AM to 3:00 PM.
- This is a full-time, 9-month position.
- Overtime is required for special events.
