Role overview
EY is looking for a Data Engineering Lead (Manager) to guide enterprise data transformation for a major insurance client. The position focuses on building modern, scalable data platforms on Azure and Databricks to support analytics, compliance, and business decision-making. You will shape data architecture, influence strategy, and help deliver high-value solutions in a complex enterprise setting.
What you will do
- Own the architecture and execution of large-scale data platforms built on Azure and Databricks.
- Set the data strategy, technical direction, and delivery roadmap to match business and regulatory needs.
- Design robust data models, data pipelines, and lakehouse-based solutions that can scale.
- Lead modernization efforts for legacy systems such as DB2 and Datastage, moving them to cloud platforms.
- Work closely with business stakeholders, architects, and cross-functional teams to deliver data-driven outcomes.
- Build governance, security, and compliance controls that meet insurance industry expectations.
- Manage, coach, and support data engineering teams while promoting quality and delivery discipline.
- Improve productivity by introducing AI, GenAI, and agentic AI approaches where they add value.
Skills and experience required
- Hands-on background in designing data platforms on Azure services such as ADF, ADLS, and Synapse, along with Databricks.
- Strong capability in Python, SQL, Spark, and distributed data processing at scale.
- Solid understanding of data architecture, data warehousing, and lakehouse design patterns.
- Prior exposure to Insurance or BFSI environments and their regulatory data requirements.
- Demonstrated leadership in managing teams and delivering complex, large programs.
- Working knowledge of DevOps, CI/CD, and current software engineering practices.
- Excellent communication, stakeholder handling, and problem-solving abilities.
- Experience using AI, automation, and engineering accelerators to improve delivery efficiency.
- Useful background in Mulesoft, Datastage, and DB2 integration or migration work.
- Familiarity with insurance processes such as claims, underwriting, policy, and finance.
- Relevant Azure or Databricks certifications are an advantage.
- Exposure to AI/ML platforms and agentic AI frameworks is preferred.
Education and eligibility
Applicants should be any graduate. A bachelor’s or master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related discipline is preferred for this role.
Location
The position is based in Bangalore or Kochi, India.
