Stellenbeschreibung

Job purpose

The Data Management Specialist is responsible for safeguarding the accuracy, governance, lifecycle management, and practical use of SNOC’s upstream technical and geospatial information. This position handles both physical sample records and digital E&P datasets across several software systems, ensuring well-maintained spatial frameworks, complete metadata, and controlled versioning. The work supports technical teams across functions, improves ease of access to information, and helps drive digital ways of working in upstream operations.

Key duties and responsibilities

  • Keep the company’s E&P data classification structure, taxonomy, and master register current for both physical and digital upstream datasets.
  • Oversee the complete technical data process, from receiving and indexing through quality checking, archiving, and secure distribution of geological, geophysical, seismic, well, reservoir, production, and physical sample information.
  • Review and quality-check GIS and spatial datasets so they remain fully aligned with WGS84 and the organization’s coordinate reference systems.
  • Administer corporate well databases, including well headers, deviation records, formation information, and historical data, while ensuring smooth connectivity with geoscience systems.
  • Work with external vendors, partners, and data contractors on specialist archiving, digitization, tape transcription, and data delivery assignments.
  • Apply data governance controls, including user access management, secure exchange tracking, and naming standards.
  • Support digital transformation by contributing to automation workflows, improving system usability, and integrating processes across departments.
  • Offer everyday user assistance, guidance on software platforms, and technical database training to multidisciplinary technical teams.

Qualifications and experience

A bachelor’s degree or higher in Geology, Geophysics, Earth Sciences, Data Management, Geomatics, GIS, or a closely related technical field is preferred. In the absence of a degree, equivalent professional experience in upstream data management may be accepted. The role requires at least 7 years of hands-on experience in the upstream petroleum industry, specifically in upstream data management.

Specific job skills

  • Experience managing the full data lifecycle in an upstream setting, including receipt, cataloguing, quality control, storage, retrieval, and sharing of technical information.
  • Ability to manage physical and digital E&P libraries, including coordination with off-site storage vendors and tape transcription processes.
  • Strong grasp of upstream data governance concepts such as metadata standards, data ownership, access control, versioning, data lineage, and quality assurance.
  • Knowledge of seismic data types and handling methods, including 2D and 3D datasets, SEGY and SEGD formats, as well as well log digitization and G&G data vectorization.
  • Understanding of partner data management procedures and joint-venture data-sharing practices used by national and international upstream operators.
  • Working knowledge of GIS tools, geodetic workflows, coordinate reference systems, and spatial quality-control methods.
