About the role

EY is looking for a Data Migration Specialist at Senior Consultant level to support client engagements focused on moving and transforming data successfully. In this role, you will help shape and deliver migration solutions, drawing on experience in data migration, data quality, and governance to support reliable and compliant data transitions.

You will work within a wider delivery team and contribute across the full migration lifecycle, including planning, execution, reconciliation, and post-migration support. The position is based in Wellington, with Auckland also considered for suitable candidates. EY notes that the role may be adapted for flexible working arrangements with reduced hours.

Responsibilities

  • Support the full delivery lifecycle of data migration projects, from discovery and planning through to execution, reconciliation, and post-migration activities.
  • Help define and implement migration approaches and deliverables across project stages.
  • Convert business and functional needs into migration outputs such as data mappings and transformation rules.
  • Assist with the design and documentation of migration workflows, technical specifications, and process steps.
  • Work alongside senior colleagues to apply suitable migration patterns, tools, and reconciliation methods.
  • Partner with technical and business stakeholders to strengthen data governance, ownership, and quality practices.
  • Analyse datasets to uncover quality issues and support corrective actions.
  • Ensure migration work aligns with privacy, regulatory, and security obligations.
  • Keep project leads informed about progress, risks, and issues.
  • Contribute to shared learning, team improvement, and reuse of migration templates, accelerators, and reusable assets.
  • Stay current with new developments, tools, and approaches in data migration and data management.

Requirements

  • Experience assisting with end-to-end data migration delivery, including planning, execution, and reconciliation.
  • Exposure to migration design concepts and ETL/ELT methods and tools.
  • Hands-on experience with modern data and analytics platforms such as Microsoft Azure, Databricks, Python, and Power BI.
  • Understanding of data governance practices, including data quality, ownership, and control mechanisms.
  • Ability to assess data sets, identify issues, and help drive remediation plans.
  • Experience creating documentation for mappings, workflows, and migration procedures.
  • Familiarity with ETL/ELT platforms and data processing frameworks.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for collaboration with delivery teams and stakeholders.
  • High attention to detail with a focus on accuracy, integrity, and quality.
  • Ability to organise tasks and deliverables against agreed timelines.
  • Experience working with cloud-based data platforms is preferred.

Perks and benefits

  • Access to career development opportunities and future-focused learning.
  • Flexible working options designed to support work-life balance.
  • A benefits package that includes a yearly wellness incentive, up to 8 additional weeks of flex leave each year, and family-friendly policies.
  • 26 weeks of gender-neutral paid parental leave.
  • An inclusive workplace culture that supports diversity, equity, and belonging.

Additional information

This role is ideally based in Wellington, though Auckland candidates may also be considered depending on client needs. Flexible arrangements with reduced hours may be possible. EY welcomes applicants from all ages, nationalities, abilities, cultures, sexual orientations, and gender identities, and encourages candidates to request any support or adjustments needed during recruitment. Selected applicants will need to complete employment screening through EY or a third-party provider.
