Role overview
TEKsystems is hiring a Data Scientist to contribute to clinical AI products for healthcare provider organizations and life sciences customers. This is a fully remote permanent role, with candidates considered from New York, NY or Raleigh, NC. The position sits within a small healthcare technology team focused on building AI-enabled software that creates measurable clinical and business value.
What you’ll do
- Take ownership of data science work from framing the problem through to production release, working with a high degree of independence across complex healthcare and technical contexts.
- Design and build advanced AI and machine learning models that are dependable, scalable, and well integrated into products alongside engineering and MLOps partners.
- Investigate model behavior, data issues, and performance irregularities in depth to maintain model quality and impact once deployed.
- Raise the team’s technical bar by sharing best practices, reviewing code carefully, and acting as a senior resource for difficult modeling challenges.
- Help shape future modeling and technical direction by assessing and advocating for new tools, approaches, and architectures aligned to the product roadmap.
- Present findings, recommendations, and strategic insights clearly to senior leaders, clinical specialists, and other stakeholders.
Technical focus
The team places strong emphasis on XGBoost, which is a core framework used in the role and may be covered in interviews. Additional exposure to Statsmodels, predictive modeling, and cloud platforms is important. Familiarity with Mamba architecture is a plus, and BERT experience is also beneficial.
Required background
- Advanced degree such as a Master’s or PhD in computer science, data science, statistics, biomedical engineering, or a closely related discipline.
- At least 5 years of professional experience in data science, machine learning, or deep learning, ideally in healthcare.
- Strong Python skills, along with hands-on experience using common libraries and frameworks such as NumPy, Pandas, Scikit-learn, TensorFlow, and PyTorch.
- Solid understanding of the full model development lifecycle, including version control, experimentation, and validation practices.
- Experience building and deploying AI models on a major cloud platform; Google Cloud Platform is preferred.
- Knowledge of natural language processing and transformer-based model architectures is a strong advantage.
- Exposure to healthcare data standards such as OMOP, FHIR, and DICOM.
- Familiarity with clinical coding and terminology systems including ICD, SNOMED, and LOINC.
- Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving ability, and attention to model quality.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and collaboration skills.
- Interest in improving healthcare outcomes and contributing to meaningful social impact.
Compensation and benefits
The salary range for this role is $150,000 to $170,000 per year. Benefits include zero-premium medical, dental, and vision coverage, open unlimited PTO, no-meeting Fridays, paid parental leave, and a 401(k) retirement plan.
Work arrangement and hiring notes
