Role overview
The EHS Specialist role calls for a strong grounding in safety compliance, risk control, and practical engineering thinking. In this position, you will investigate incidents, identify the underlying causes, and help put corrective measures in place to reduce the chance of repeat events. You will also need to share guidance clearly and concisely with employees across all levels of the organization. Success in this role depends on strong communication, problem-solving, and the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams on safety-related challenges.
Key duties
- Lead environmental, health, and safety outcomes for one or more manufacturing areas by working closely with employees and aligning with business and EHS priorities.
- Collaborate with factory partners to ensure production and facility changes strengthen controls for health, safety, and environmental risks.
- Carry out audits and inspections, record findings, and confirm corrective actions are completed. Deliver EHS training and run workshops with onsite teams.
- Review incident patterns and apply risk assessment techniques to identify improvement projects that lower injury, illness, and environmental impact events. Support investigations using a Learning Teams approach so workers are involved and corrective actions address system-level causes rather than only individual behavior.
- Take part in pre-job planning and check that controls and safeguards are in place before new, high-risk, or non-standard work starts.
- Work with EHS subject matter areas such as environmental, construction safety, equipment safety, EHS systems and tools, and EHS training to support effective service delivery.
- Maintain and use onsite EHS systems and tools, including event reporting, dashboards, action tracking, management of change, and similar processes. Create new procedures, inspections, trainings, or reports when needed.
Required background
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental, Health, and Safety, or equivalent hands-on experience.
- At least 3 years of experience in environmental, health, or safety work, ideally within manufacturing, oil and gas, construction, or a comparable setting.
- Proven experience working across functions and helping drive EHS programs, training employees at different levels, and influencing change to reduce risk and improve results.
- Working knowledge of hazard analysis, hazard communication, powered industrial vehicle safety, OSHA compliance, incident investigation, and corrective action management.
- Exposure to industrial hygiene, ergonomics, machine safety, and environmental compliance processes is an advantage.
- Ability to stay effective under pressure while handling multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Strong customer service mindset and advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office tools such as Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Project.
