Role Overview

The Tennessee Department of Health’s Maternal Health Section, part of the Division of Family Health and Wellness, is looking for a contract Epidemiologist to assist with the Family Planning program. The role supports Title X reporting and compliance, along with the Presumptive Eligibility program.

Work Location and Schedule

This position is based at 710 James Robertson Parkway, Nashville, TN, 6th Floor, Andrew Johnson Tower, Nashville, TN 37243. The shift runs from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM in a hybrid setup. New joiners must report to the Nashville office on their first day for laptop handoff and onboarding, and then attend in person at least once per quarter or whenever quarterly meetings and professional development sessions are scheduled. Travel to the Nashville office is not reimbursed. The standard workweek is Monday through Friday, 37.5 hours.

Key Responsibilities

The Epidemiologist will be responsible for building and maintaining data systems, developing collection tools, and analyzing program data to measure performance. The role also includes descriptive epidemiology, interpretation of results, preparation of reports and visualizations, and communication of findings to both internal teams and outside partners. Another part of the job is identifying where technical support is needed and where data quality can be improved.

Additional Duties

Reports created for this role must comply with Data Release Guidelines. Qualifications

Candidates should have strong analytical skills and be comfortable using statistical software; SAS experience is a plus. Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Outlook, Word, and PowerPoint is expected. Experience with data visualization and database management is required, and REDCap familiarity is strongly preferred. Strong verbal and written communication abilities are essential, along with technical writing skills. Prior work supporting and evaluating public health programs is also highly desirable.

Education and Experience

A master’s degree from an accredited college or university in epidemiology, biostatistics, statistics, health information, or public health is required, along with at least two years of relevant experience.
