Position overview
Right Traffic is hiring a detail-focused, outcome-oriented Estimator to support bid evaluation, pricing strategy, and proposal development. In this role, you will make sure estimates are thorough, accurate, and delivered within bid deadlines, helping drive project wins and a strong client experience.
The position calls for a mix of technical capability, strategic judgment, and strong communication. You will work with multiple teams, keep cost information up to date, and contribute ideas for more efficient construction methods so the company can stay competitive in the traffic control space.
Key responsibilities
- Examine bid packages to spot opportunities that are both viable and strategically valuable.
- Create bid and proposal approaches that emphasize the company’s strengths and market advantages.
- Produce precise, complete cost estimates and submit them on schedule.
- Check estimates and revisions carefully to confirm scope alignment and overall accuracy.
- Partner with the General Manager and other stakeholders to support coordinated project planning and execution.
- Track and record project information shared between internal teams and outside partners.
- Prepare early-stage budgets using design concepts and owner-supplied information.
- Assess alternative materials and construction approaches to uncover savings opportunities.
- Develop productive working relationships with internal departments and external clients.
- Build and maintain a detailed cost database covering labor, equipment, productivity, and installation methods.
- Improve estimating workflows, standards, and guidelines to support consistency and accuracy.
- Create clear reports and supporting documentation for estimating and business development activities.
Qualifications
- Background in budget building and department-level financial planning.
- Solid experience estimating for DOT-related work.
- Comfort using Microsoft Office tools and at least one professional estimating platform.
- Ability to read and interpret civil, construction, and traffic control drawings and specifications.
- Design-build project exposure is a plus.
- Strong organization and time management skills, with the ability to juggle multiple priorities.
- Capable of working independently as well as collaboratively.
- Analytical thinker with strong attention to detail and problem-solving ability.
- Strong spoken and written communication skills.
- Able to identify inconsistencies or gaps in project documents and plans.
Preferred experience
At least 3 years of estimating experience in traffic control or a related field is preferred. Direct involvement in state DOT bid work is strongly preferred.
