Role overview
Steel & Tube Holdings Ltd is seeking two full-time Galvanisers to join its Wellington operation in Gracefield, Lower Hutt. This is a permanent, on-site role within the company’s galvanising division, which protects steel by applying a hot-dip zinc coating to help prevent corrosion for construction, infrastructure, rural, and engineering applications across New Zealand.
Location and schedule
The position is based at 129 Hutt Park Road, Gracefield, Lower Hutt 5010. The role is permanent and full-time.
What the role involves
This is a practical, physically demanding industrial job that covers the full galvanising workflow. You will be involved from the early preparation stage through to finishing and packing the completed steel.
- Sort and manage steel in the black end, including contaminated items
- Support the maintenance of acid baths used during pickling
- Safely immerse steel in the molten zinc kettle
- Carry out white-end finishing, including inspection, fettling to remove extra zinc, packing, and stacking job lots safely
- Keep work areas free from hazards and maintain safe operating practices
- Help customers when needed and communicate clearly to support efficient operations
Working conditions and training
The environment includes heat, chemicals, and heavy lifting, so safety awareness is essential at all times. Full on-the-job training will be provided, and prior galvanising experience is not required.
About you
The ideal candidate is dependable, punctual, team-oriented, and committed to safety. You should be comfortable with strenuous manual work, able to think practically, and willing to identify and solve issues before they become problems. Pride in producing quality finished steel is important for this role.
Additional experience that would be helpful
- Forklift licence with F endorsement
- Experience operating an overhead gantry crane
- Background handling chemicals
- Health and safety training
