Gardener

About the role

Green by Nature is focused on maintaining healthy, attractive green spaces across Ōtautahi Christchurch and the surrounding region. The team supports a retirement village client and is looking for a full-time Gardener to help deliver high-quality garden care as the business continues to grow.

What you will do

You will report to the Team Manager and work alongside a small crew of 2 to 3 team members. The role centres on keeping gardens and landscaped areas in excellent condition, with work planned around a structured schedule and a strong focus on safety for clients, the public, your colleagues, and yourself.

• Carry out planting, weeding, pruning, and vegetation management
• Maintain bedding displays, rose gardens, borders, and shrubs
• Complete gardening tasks to a consistently high standard
• Follow an organised work schedule and safe work practices

What we are looking for

The ideal candidate will bring practical gardening experience or a Level 3/4 horticulture qualification, although these are not compulsory. A strong work ethic, enthusiasm for outdoor work, and a hands-on attitude are key. You should also be comfortable taking responsibility for your work while contributing positively to a team environment.

• Current full driver's licence and confidence driving a manual vehicle
• Level 3 or Level 4 National Certificate in Horticulture and current GrowSafe certification are highly desirable
• Ability to work independently and as part of a supportive team
• Good understanding of health and safety requirements in a gardening environment
• Clear communication skills, including the ability to interact with members of the public when required
• Motivated, proactive, and willing to see tasks through to completion

Full-time staff are guaranteed work hours, with the opportunity for additional hours depending on operational needs. A performance-based salary reviewed annually is also offered, along with a yearly wellness benefit of $300 after the qualifying period.
