Role Overview

Lamb Weston is seeking dependable, hard-working, and motivated team members for its Taber, Alberta plant. This role is part of a large global food manufacturer that serves customers in more than 100 countries and values initiative, creativity, and accountability. This is a full-time position on a compressed 12-hour schedule, working from 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM. There may be opportunities for advancement and shift changes under the company’s internal advancement process.

What the Job Involves

The general labour team supports a range of plant operations. Work may include inspecting and sorting raw and frozen product, handling finished goods for rework, and completing cleaning and sanitation tasks. The job can involve long periods of standing, sitting, and repetitive hand and arm movements while checking for defects or foreign material. Duties may take place anywhere in the plant and, at times, in raw product storage areas or potato fields. The work is physically demanding and often fast-paced.

Key Duties

• Trim and inspect product carefully.
• Remove foreign material during transfers and inspections, and immediately alert a supervisor if glass, metal, or any other contamination is found.
• Keep the work area sanitary as needed.
• Clean the work area using approved cleaning equipment and supplies, including a high-pressure water hose when required, and clean plant equipment during scheduled plant cleanup.
• Operate process equipment and help load or unload materials, parts, or products onto or from pallets, skids, conveyors, or trucks.
• Support packaging operators.
• Serve as a fire watch attendant when assigned.
• Complete mandatory safety training sessions.
• Remove product as needed from processing lines.
• Operate bulk blend back equipment.
• Carry out snow removal duties.
• Assist field samplers.
• Clean around work areas and support sanitation staff while maintaining good housekeeping standards.
• Promote and follow safe work practices at all times.
• Participate fully in daily safety engagement activities.
• Complete, maintain, and sign required documents and administrative forms for verification.
• Communicate with process operators, sanitation leaders, and supervisors as needed.
• Follow the company’s Lock-Out Tag-Out safety policy strictly.
• Perform other duties assigned by the supervisor.

Physical Requirements

This role requires regular standing, walking, using hands and arms, reaching, talking, hearing, and sensory awareness such as taste and smell. Employees must also be able to climb or balance and bend, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Lifting requirements include regularly moving up to 10 pounds, frequently up to 25 pounds, and occasionally up to 100 pounds. The job also requires close, distance, color, peripheral, and depth vision, along with the ability to adjust focus.

Work Conditions

The work environment may involve wet or humid conditions, moving machinery, and exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals. Workers may also encounter fumes or airborne particles. At times, the role may require working at heights, outdoors in weather conditions, in extreme cold or heat, and around electrical shock hazards. Noise levels are generally loud.

Language and Communication

The position requires the ability to read and understand safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. You should also be able to understand MSDS sheets, short written instructions, memos, and correspondence, as well as write simple correspondence. Clear communication in one-on-one and group settings is also required.

Education and Experience

A high school education or equivalent is required. Applicants should have at least one month of related work experience or training. Experience in a manufacturing environment is considered an advantage.

Certification and Eligibility

WHMIS certification must be obtained and maintained; the company will provide the training and certification. Candidates must have valid Canadian work authorization. Any offer made may depend on the successful completion of a background check in line with applicable laws and company policy.
