Role Overview

This is a practical, hands-on HR leadership position responsible for running the day-to-day people operations on a major infrastructure programme. It is a frontline role, not a strategy-only position, and requires someone who enjoys being embedded in the project environment and close to operational delivery.

You will lead a team of 4 direct reports and partner with project leaders, site managers, and a varied international workforce to make sure HR support is delivered smoothly and effectively.

The position begins in Auckland CBD and will later move to a site north of Auckland as the project advances.

Key Responsibilities

• Take ownership of daily HR operations across a large project workforce.
• Deliver practical, immediate HR guidance to leaders and site-based teams.
• Handle employee relations and industrial relations matters directly and effectively.
• Manage recruitment at scale, onboarding processes, and workforce mobilisation.
• Maintain strong compliance with HR policies, procedures, and legal requirements.
• Contribute to workforce planning and resourcing as business needs change.
• Support employee engagement, performance management, and productivity initiatives.
• Guide, coach, and develop a small HR team to achieve strong operational results.

Requirements

• Significant background in operational HR within large and complex organisations or project settings.
• Exposure to construction, infrastructure, engineering, or similar delivery environments.
• Ability to manage a heavy volume of HR activity in a fast-moving setting.
• Experience working with diverse, international teams.
• Strong understanding of New Zealand employment law and industrial relations.
• A practical, solutions-oriented mindset with solid problem-solving ability.
• Confidence in partnering with frontline leaders while balancing competing priorities.

Additional Information

ACCIONA’s project environment is highly operational and fast paced, with the role requiring close collaboration across site teams and project leadership. The work will initially be based in Auckland CBD before transitioning to a location north of Auckland as the project progresses.
