Role overview
Synlait Milk Limited is seeking an experienced Laboratory Analyst to join its Chemistry team in Dunsandel, Canterbury. This position plays an important part in specialist laboratory testing and also supports method development work that is currently in progress.
You will work as part of a cooperative team delivering accurate analytical outcomes that help support the broader business. The role suits someone who is detail-focused, comfortable adapting to changing business needs, and able to explain scientific ideas clearly and precisely. Prior experience in an analytical chemistry laboratory is essential for success in this role.
Key duties
- Carry out routine business-as-usual testing on milk and milk powder samples.
- Perform day-to-day maintenance and fault-finding on analytical testing equipment.
- Support and train others in the use of analytical methods.
- Keep testing consumables stocked, tracked, and organised.
- Assist the technical laboratory team with method development activities.
- Spot opportunities for improvement and contribute to ongoing continuous improvement initiatives.

Skills and experience
The ideal candidate will already have chemistry testing experience, although additional support may be provided to help develop further capability.
- A degree in Chemistry, or a qualification of similar level, is preferred.
- Experience in an ISO17025 laboratory and dairy testing is an advantage, though not mandatory.
- Hands-on exposure to at least two analytical instruments such as HPLC, GD-FID, LCMS-MS, or ICP-MS.
- Strong computer literacy, including Microsoft Power Suite and LIMs.
- Proven ability to stay productive under pressure and manage multiple tasks while meeting deadlines.
