Role overview

The Chamber of Commerce Hawaii is hiring a Manager of Education to support career exploration, work-based learning (WBL), and workforce development efforts for students at selected Hawaiʻi Department of Education (HIDOE) elementary, middle, and high schools. In this role, you will work closely with the Vice President of Education and Workforce Development and the Associate Director of Education to connect school leaders, educators, and staff with businesses and other partners so that students can access meaningful in-person and virtual WBL experiences.

You will help manage existing WBL partnerships between participating businesses and HIDOE high schools, with a focus on strengthening student awareness, exploration, preparation, and training, while also encouraging education beyond high school. The position includes coordination of career fairs, mock interviews, job site visits, guest speakers, internships, and related events, meetings, and programs that bring together schools and the business community. You may also support additional Chamber departments as needed to advance this initiative.

Minimum qualifications

The role requires a bachelor’s degree, associate’s degree, and/or education certification, along with at least 3 years of experience in education or nonprofit work. Prior teaching experience and program planning background are preferred.

Primary duties

Under the direction of the VP of Education and Workforce Development, this position will coordinate with public- and private-sector CTE and WBL leaders statewide to support alignment and shared learning.

The manager will maintain productive relationships with school administrators, faculty, and staff across high school, middle school, and elementary settings, with a particular focus on two school complex areas.

Responsibilities also include leading and delivering assigned WBL activities, heading at least one Chamber Education signature program, supporting industry sector partnerships, and maintaining the Education and Workforce Development WBL dashboard.

The role also involves building and managing business partnerships that create remote and in-person WBL opportunities for high school students, preparing periodic grant reports, assisting with sponsorship outreach for EWD events, and supporting workforce development initiatives for the broader team.

Additional duties include scheduling speakers, vendors, and participants for events and programs, suggesting improvements to planning and implementation, and creating graphics, videos, and other marketing materials for WBL experiences.

Skills and abilities

Success in this role requires strong organization, attention to detail, professionalism, and the ability to manage multiple priorities at once. The candidate should be comfortable working both independently and collaboratively, and must be proficient with Google Workspace tools such as Google Docs and Google Sheets as well as Canva.

Other important capabilities include customer service experience, project management experience, strong verbal and written communication, and polished telephone and virtual meeting etiquette. The role also requires the ability to collect and handle data securely, adapt quickly to changing needs, and establish priorities while meeting deadlines.

Working conditions

This position may require a flexible schedule that includes early mornings, evenings, and weekends. Some duties may involve standing for extended periods, lifting up to 30 pounds, and driving a vehicle with a valid driver’s license.

Compensation and benefits

The salary range for this position is $55,000 to $65,000 per year, with final compensation based on relevant experience, skills, and qualifications. Benefits include health and disability coverage, a 401(k), paid vacation and sick leave, reimbursement for qualified expenses and mileage, and parking.

Grant-funded position

This role sits within the Hawaii Chamber of Commerce Foundation and is funded through grants. Continued employment is dependent on the continuation of grant support.

Additional employment note

The employer notes that the duties, responsibilities, and qualifications listed here are intended to describe the general scope of the position and are not exhaustive. The organization may assign additional duties and may revise the job description by adding, removing, or changing responsibilities as needed.

Eligibility

Applicants should have a background in education, nonprofit work, or related program coordination, along with the ability to work in a fast-moving, multi-dimensional environment. The employer is looking for someone who can build relationships effectively and handle a broad range of education and workforce development tasks.
