Role overview
This 18-month contract position sits within Messenger Services and is focused on the secure, punctual, and efficient movement of goods, equipment, and personnel. The role supports both internal and external deliveries, and when delivery work is light, the individual assists the wider team with additional department tasks. A strong emphasis is placed on safe driving, vehicle upkeep, route planning, and adherence to bank procedures and transportation rules.
The position calls for a solid understanding of departmental processes, the organization’s core values, and the ability to operate different vehicle types that may require different licence classes. The driver is expected to work in line with all applicable transportation regulations as well as internal policies.
Key accountabilities
- Collect and deliver internal mail, courier items, equipment, and other materials sent to the bank by third-party businesses across the Greater Toronto Area.
- Confirm what is being transported, check instructions carefully, and ensure every item is routed correctly in line with department processes, including logging items in SendSuite and completing delivery to the intended recipient.
- Handle both low-value and high-value items securely by obtaining signatures and using track-and-trace practices.
- Keep the assigned vehicle and related equipment in proper working order by reporting damage and maintenance needs promptly.
- Support the department with a range of tasks during downtime.
- Apply the bank’s risk appetite and risk culture in everyday decisions and work practices.
- Work efficiently and effectively while following the organization’s values, Code of Conduct, and Global Sales Principles, and help maintain strong business controls across operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions, and conduct-risk obligations.
- Contribute to a high-performance, inclusive workplace.
- Promote a customer-first approach that strengthens client relationships and makes use of the bank’s wider relationships, systems, and knowledge.
Education and experience
A high school diploma is required. A G-class driver’s licence is required, while an F-class licence is considered an advantage. Candidates should have knowledge of logistics, familiarity with Toronto/GTA street geography, and a clean driving record.
Working conditions
This role is based in a standard office environment, but non-standard hours are common. The business operates from 8:00am to 6:00pm, and the driver will work 7.5 hours within that window, with schedules varying based on business needs. The role may begin from different campus locations.
The work includes heavy physical activity such as lifting up to 750 lbs at a time, pushing pallet trucks and two-wheel dollies, and packaging mail and materials for route service and fulfilment requests. The position also requires bending, reaching, twisting, and walking.
Outside duties involve driving in all weather conditions and exposure to construction zones and other daily hazards. Driving is a regular, ongoing part of the job and may include downtown routes as well as highway travel to North York and Mississauga. Shifts may run from early morning to late evening and may involve extreme weather. The role also requires awareness of traffic by-laws, changing traffic conditions, daily traffic disruptions, and the need to transport time-sensitive materials, high-security items, and documents safely.
About the employer
The employer is a major bank in the Americas, serving customers, families, and communities through a wide range of personal and commercial banking, wealth management, private banking, corporate and investment banking, and capital markets services.
